Is the flu scare/epidemic affecting your travel plans?
I saw on the news that many airports in the Asian countries are scanning folks arriving from the US and if they are showing signs of the flu may not be let into the country. Anyone having their travel plans disrupted by this latest epidemic scare?
I went to Mexico during the swine flu scare a few years ago and they did the same sort of scanning on folks leaving for the US - I did see a few folks pulled out of line after they were scanned and not allowed to board the plane.Roam if you want to, roam around the world...........

Hi, DH--we did the same--we went to Hacienda Tres Rios for our first visit. No flu! No crowds! I never saw anyone denied access to gates at any airport. I would think it might be due to point of origin?
We recently returned from Beijing and my husband ended up with a cold a few weeks later--upper respiratory/sinus infection. Hardly influenza, tho. There's always a risk of contracting something from someone who has no clue they have it until you're already effected. So many people continue to work because they have to.
I always see people overseas with masks who are not actually filtering anything. A virus cannot be filtered by a paper mask. Many Asians wear them for the pollution. But it's the same as cigarette smoke--it gets into nasal passages and sinus cavities and causes lots of respiratory issues. I have had problems in Bangkok and Beijing and I quit smoking 9 yrs ago. Smokers in Beijing were prevalent on the streets--by the zillions--no restrictions that I saw, except in malls/hotels. Same thing in many parts of Europe. Beijing was the worst by far.
Once that stink gets in my head, it takes days to clear. I still encounter it at retail stores where smokers gather at the doors. I carry saline and nasal Rx sprays to combat the irritation. I don't wear a mask anywhere except at Halloween, but I don't usually need one!"wherever you go, there you are"

Haven't thought about it. I do take Cold EZE with me. I always seem to have "sneezey" sitting near me!

When we travel this time of year, we just carry along and use a simply over the counter Isotonic saline solution to keep the mucus membrane moist and irrigated. We do use a foaming product on our hands called Microsan Hand Sanitizer....it is superior to most of the less expensive products.
We leave the medical face masks and latex gloves at home!

I haven't changed my plans but I find myself washing my hands more frequently and using hand sanitizers more.
Also, I make a point of not using my fingers to touch things. For example, I'll use my car key or something else to push that elevator button, use my sleeve over my hand to open a door handle, and I always use my own pen to sign a credit card slip......just things like that.
I got the flu shot - so far, so good!Last edited by jmbklj; 01-18-2013 at 11:37 AM.

It is always easier to get sick in the winter - I always get some sort of respiratory infection every winter that drags on for weeks and then once I hit my warm weather destination every March it goes away and I am fine again until around December/January when they cycle starts again!
I really, really need to live full time in a warm weather climate - I never get sick in warm/hot weather.
It is 10F right now in Philly and I so hate the cold!Roam if you want to, roam around the world...........

02-02-2013, 03:34 PMNo, so far so good. We have escaped the flue that was going around in Florida and so far we have not ventured out much yet in Germany. We are still so jet-lagged, and the weather is wet and snowy, that we have not gone out much yet.
