Isn't it interesting that ALL but one (Chernobyl) are water bordered/based/involved--lakes, rivers, ice...

It seems like the more water there is around a place, the more folks want to go - Mexico coast, Caribbean, etc.

and water makes for pretty pictures!! I wonder if much of Bhutan is water-oriented? At least Madagascar is an island!!
Then again, I'd be somewhat concerned about a water feature at Chernobyl?"wherever you go, there you are"

Most unique?
Interesting article, but there's no such thing as "most unique." Unique means one of a kind. You can't get more one of a kind than one of a kind. It bothers me when professional writers don't know our language.

I see Azores are listed. We keep looking at going there. There are direct flights from Boston. Looks like a great destination!

01-19-2011, 07:53 AMSomehow I doubt Steve Forbes is going to spend a week on the ground at Chernobyl.
Agree with thepiranha and the over use of hype words. Started with the tabloids, then went to tabloid TV & political AM radio & cable TV. Then there is PR run amok with the whole cekbrity worship explosion. Paris Hilton being the most obvious example.
Ever notice how travel magazines (and others such as Forbes) come out with their 'best of 10/15/50' lists this time of year? These lists are easy to do -- too often article crutches - as opposed to in-depth reports of a location.

Not good for the sleep patterns, but our local PBS station has been running recycled travel & cooking programs at the wee hours of the morning, and the islands off Spain & Portugal such as the Azores, have generated some interest here too, BonnieJoy.

What kind of research do you think they do to come up with these lists - # of visitors in the past year, cost, they were paid by the tourism department? Or are they looking for places that the average folks don't usually go to - how many people do you know that have said they always wanted to go to Bhutan (or actually know where it is)
