Getting involved in the communities that you visit
How many of you get involved in the communities that you visit? One way is to visit the local schools and donate time or supplies. Another way is to meet the local people and share their events with them. We try to bring supplies to local communities that we visit. Socially, we tend to play tennis when we travel and have met wonderful people. It is a lot of fun and allowed us to look and learn!

We usually like to bring some stuff with us that we know local school children can use - like pencils, pens, etc. The hubby also gets Hertz caps and t-shirts from work so we bring a bunch of these with us - the kids love the ball caps!
When we stayed at Laguna Lodge in Guatemala, the owners were involved with an eyeglass program where they take old glasses and frames and have them remade for the locals who need them - since I wear glasses, I had a bunch of old ones at home so I mailed them to the owners PO box when I got home. We also support the local population by doing lots of shopping on our trips!!
