06-22-2007, 12:18 PMGreat Place for a wedding?
In January, I asked the Community to share ideas about a great place for a marriage proposal and got fabulous responses. The young doctor appreciated the ideas and incorporated several ideas, including both water and mountains. The proposal took place recently at the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone, and she said, yes! The ring is beautiful, as is the bride-to-be. Now the next question is where to hold the wedding. Since the groom-to-be enjoyed your suggestions, please share ideas on where to hold the wedding which is at least a year away. Thanks! Cheers...Marolyn

Re: Great Place for a wedding?
A great question, but can we narrow it down a bit? A big wedding or small? A destination wedding or does it need to be in a specific region for friends and family? Are they partial to beach or mountains, country or city? There are thousands of fantastic wedding locations worldwide; some help narrowing the field would be great!

Re: Great Place for a wedding?
Marolyn -- i think you will have opened up a big string of thots and rambles -- can you also narrow it down to 'season' and what sort of 'weather' they want in that season. A December wedding in Vermont or Aspen is alot different than a December wedding in New Zealand or Jamaica. As well, is this a 'lets all travel to the same place, and make it a wedding and vacation and everyone is around for the honeymoon thing'? I have been to 'wedding vacations' with friends, and a ceremony on a small private hilltop, with Mount Kilimanjaro in the background, with some local Masai helping in the celebration, and to weddings that were on cruise ships ... knowing what wide range of adventure they have, and how many, and roughly whenmay help us focus.
this will be a fun thread.
kind regards

Thanks for your interest. Right now, as far as I know, the newly engaged couple has not settled on a single concept for their wedding. To give you a few clues, however, they have said they might want a small wedding with just family and life-long friends. The bride is from Pennsylvaina, so they might hold the wedding there although she does not insist on it. They have mentioned being married on a beach or in the mountains...pretty wide open at this time. I hope this helps focus your creative ideas. Cheers...Marolyn

Re: Great Place for a wedding?
Hi Marolyn. Interesting point that the bride is from Pennsylvania and might want the wedding there. Well, I am from Pennsylvania and might be able to help. If you know what part of Pennsylvania, I would love to offer some ideas. If she is in the eastern part of the state, she could also do a beach wedding in Delaware, Maryland, or NJ. One lovely idea is a smaller beach town such as Bethanay Beach. Please provide more info.

Bonniejoy...I think the bride-to-be is from southern Pennsylvania, a small town. I actually don't know. She might want to be married in and around her home base...or maybe not. I think they might like to consider all options. I'll try to find out and share with you. Thanks...Marolyn

Hi marolyn. We will wait to hear from you. I would LOVE to help. (especially living in PA). Can't wait for more details. This reminds me of The Today Show's episodes where people vote on all the wedding stuff! Maybe we can try to do the same!!

To clarify, the young couple is very open about the venue for their wedding. Please do not limit comments to Pennsylvania but think beaches, vineyards, mountains...whatever sites you have experienced as a wonderful place for a wedding. Cheers...Marolyn

Re: Great Place for a wedding?
Living in California, I've been to some fantastic weddings here - usually in beach towns like Laguna Beach or Santa Barbara. That said, two of my favorite summer weddings were held in mountain areas - one in Vermont and the other in the Blue Ridge mountains of North Carolina. They were just so green and lovely. The actual weddings were held in small historic white churches and the receptions were both in tents outside under the stars with gorgeous mountain views. They were at small locations where no other weddings were being held at the same time (a pet peeve of mine!) Being outside, they were just so laid-back, gorgeous and fun. The flowers stood out next to the greenness of the grass, trees and mountains. They were in small, remote locations so the music could be loud and fun. Not only the wedding days themselves but the accompanying rehearsal dinners, parties and brunches were quite memorable.

Classenam these suggestions sound great! I remember a wedding on Cumberland Island Georgia - that is where John Kennedy was married as most of us may recall. Lovely small chapel as you describe - BEAUTIFUL. My husband and I were married (12 yrs ago) in Lake Geneva WI on a quainthotel patio, overlooking the lake, Our reception was on an antique steam boat touring the lake. Great fun was had by all! Having our reception on a boat, a fairly small boat, limited our expenses since only 40 guests could be accommodated. This was a memorable, different location that you may wish to consider. Boats naturally come in all sizes, so your dream wedding and reception can be a reality. happy planning - it's part of the good times ...Funtimes
