Guanajuato, Mexico
I am torn between 2 properties--Villa Maria Cristina and Quinta Las Acacias. Both are simlarly priced and each has some advantages. Does anyone have any insight that might help me decide?
We'd like to go in September, and any recommendations about the area is appreciated.
Thanks a bunch, y'all.

The Villa Maria Cristina is a beautiful old house very well remodeled.
Staff is very professional and friendly.
All first class amenities, we really like the SPA and pool. Steam bath in your own room is a great idea.
Breakfast was included in the rate and we feel like in a Mansion with our own staff.
If you want to have a nice relaxing vacation, Villa Cristina Hotel is the place.
I have personally never been to Quintas Las Acacias but have heard good things and bad things I know it 5 min from town.
The link below is for Frommers Intro to Guanajuato I used for my trip and its helpful----enjoy!

Re: Guanajuato, Mexico
polyak--thank you so much!! Would you tell me more details about your room, etc--did you use LL pkg? Did you get a car or taxi from airport? What about restaurants and recommendations. Did you go out of the town to see anything? I really appreciate the link to frommers pages. There's alot to absorb! So, I'm going to pick on you (since you volunteered!!) and, again--thanks a bunch!

Did not get LL package because did not know of this great sight at time of my travel but I am sure if they offer a package its well worth it as most of there deals. We took cab rides and they are fine when you wait at a cab stand you may recieve the friendly attention of some local people speaking to you in english or half spanish/english telling local stories events or places of interest.
As far as the room we had drinks at the bar which is very nice decor. Breakfast is included on daily rate, great service, nice taste. Superb shower, Bulgary amenities, heated pool and sauna. If you want to visit Guanajuato, keep in mind to bring comfortable shoes, it is walking city. Parking is a nightmare so although the hotel location may be an issue for those who mind walking, you can either catch a cab or a bus for few pesos and be in downtown in less than 10min.
As for restaurants try La Capellina, one block from Teatro Juarez. Great Italian and fusion food. They have a prix fix lunch for 69 pesos, appetizer-main course-desert which is great (less than 6 U$S !) Most places will have what they call "ejecutivo" around lunch time. At night this place has music, it is hip and service is great. You need reservations at night.
El jardin de los milagros in San Javier (a 5-10 minute cab ride from el centro). Nice menu, average price entrees $12-18 US. Great ceviche. The somelier was a bit obnoxious bringing $85 US bottles of wine but cooled off when I ask to bring us wines in a particular price range. He obliged nicely and the wines were fine. One more thing: make sure you have cash as some of these restaurants will claim that their credit card machine is broken. It happened at Real de la esperanza. Great setting, a bit away from town (20 minutes) with great views from their terrace seating.
Mexicans eat around 3.30 to 4 p.m. their main meal so if you eat closer to the US standard you should be avoiding the crowds.
Good luck, and enjoy Guanajuato!

Re: Guanajuato, Mexico
great info poly--thank you again!
I just got a report/answer from tripadvisor member and they added some goodies. I got distracted by the Turkey auction, so I think this will go on the back burner if I win that one. This is really convenient for a last-minute trip, tho, so we may get it anyway.
I looked at car rentals--almost equal to RT taxi from Leon airport. Making decisions is the hardest part of travel!"wherever you go, there you are"
