That is Faschnaut Day in Pennsylvania, Here we celebrate Fassnacht on the ski slopes of the Zugspitz (Germany's highest mountain). Everybody is in colorful costumes and hats on skis, and to warm up we are having Gluehwein (hot, spiced redwine) and Faschings Krapfen (decorated donuts filled with jam). We are having a wonderful, warm, sunny day for it today. It's great fun. If I knew how to add pictures to this posts, I would do so for all to see.....
We're wearing several some of our favorite Mardri Gras bead strands today, in observance of Fat Tuesday.
Plan to stop by a friend's place this afternoon for a slice of Big Easy King Cake and coffee.....no booze!
I quit eating King Cake years ago. A few drinks (well, a lot more than a few) and the next thing I know I am spitting our plastic baby arms and heads and maybe even a sliver of a tooth filling.
Nope I've given up King Cake.
Well, we skied with our dunce caps, drank gluehwein and eate Faschings Krapfen and made it down the hill without broken bones... at my age, quite a feat! Looking forward to next year!!!!
That is funny about the skiing and how the day is celebrated elsewhere!! We just had TONS of faschnauts EVERYWHERE!! The local churches all make them. People order weeks in advance to make sure they get their fachnauts!
