Has anyone been to Capri?
Capri is just so gorgeous! The architecture alone is a reason to visit. I want to move to Italy. *pout* There's a new amazing property listed, Hotel Caesar Augustus. Their web site has pictures that will make your mouth water and heart race. Has anyone been to Capri?

Re: Has anyone been to Capri?
This new Capri package is much more doable for me. With 3 days instead of 5 and a deluxe sea view room instead of a suite with a balcony. hmm...
Anyone want to go to Capri?

Hi Imbues I've been watching this post hoping that someone would give you some helpful or inspiring information, but perhaps no one in the community has been to Capri. I was lucky to travel to Capri as a youngster so my memory is not up to date. I remember the beauty and suprisingly the ceramics. Shops sold small clay firings that were beautifully glazed - very small nuggets that were like worry stones - to be held in order to bring good fortune I wish that I could find mine I could use some good fortune You will have good fortune if you are fortunate enough to travel to Capri Hope you get the bid ...Funtimes

Thanks funtimes, Ceramics sound interesting. You must have had some well travelled parents to bring a small child around Italy.

Re: Has anyone been to Capri?
We went to Capri on our honeymoon, and actually stayed at the Hotel Caesar Augustus.
The hotel was very nice, but I would call it a 4*, rather than a 5*. Perhaps our perspective about Capri and this hotel were a bit jaded as we had just come from staying at the Hotel Palazzo Sasso in Ravello, which is truly one of the most beautiful places on the planet.

Capri has a lovely faded elegance about it...very much like that of the aging film stars who visited the island in their hayday.
My husband and I kept saying to each other, "wow, Capri must have really been something in 1960".
It was a fun trip, and I'm glad we went....but with so many gorgeous places to visit in Italy we wouldn't rush back.

Re: Has anyone been to Capri?
Cruisinred,
How long ago was it that you stayed there? Did you stay in one of the suites. I was looking at the 4 larger suites and wondered what size their balconies were. As these are the most expensive ones, I expect the views would be the best from these balconies? How far away is the hotel from the airport? Do you think 7 nights would be toolong to stay here?
cheers,

Re: Has anyone been to Capri?
Hi Mary-J-
We were in Capri 4 years ago. We stayed in a junior suite, not a suite. From the photos it looks like the balconies are similiar inboth room types...the views are great but do note that the balconies are too narrow for a chaise lounge chair...just wide enough for a regular chair.
The closest airport to Capri is on the mainland, in Naples. From Naples, one takes a hydrofoil fast ferry to the main harbor in capri. I can't remember precisely how long the ride takes, but about 1-2 hours on the ferry. (Ferries also operate from other towns along the Amalfi coast, like Sorrento and Positano). From the main harborin Capri it is about a 20 minute (very scenic!) drive to the hotel.
As to whether 7 nights is too much...it really depends on the type of traveler you are. If you really like to stay put in one place to relax and explore, that might work great. As for me, I always prefer to see more places at a quicker pace...so 3-4 nights in Capri was just right for us.
Please let me know if I can help answer any other questions.
