What do you think the chances are of winning a mystery auction by bidding a few days ahead? If you are really interested in it then don't bid now, bumping up the price. You should bid on it only at the last minute if you really want it. IMO

Thanks for the tip. I guess you're right, bidding at the last minute will give me higher chances of actually taking home the prize, so to speak.

you snooze, you loose. many entries from seasoned members of the community have comments about having hesitated to bid, and eventually lost out on travel that they wanted, really wanted. if you want, you bid. and being first is irrelevant. in an auction althoughthe final bid wins... if you are not in the race, then you will never win.
LL kindly sends a little email telling you that you may have been outbid, so that you can stay in the race ...but suggestions that you wait and see, ... as biddingruns the price up, i dont agree with. you do your homework, you decide your limit, and you engage.if it appeals to you, engage.

i guess engaging and knowing my limit first before making a bid does exist. I mean, i have no idea how the actual bidding will go because this is an online auction. but i would really want to try it out. thanks for the wise tip!

Go to the home page and select travel offers--last option is past auctions--you can see what people have historically paid for "known" properties.
Mystery auctions are a bit different, since the "mystery" is sometimes the exact city as well as the property. Unless you can positively identify the hotel, you might be taking a chance. (example--one resort in Thailand wasn't exactly where stated--a full hour away and not in the city noted--another was way in the hills, nowhere near a beach, like ALL the other resorts listed as being in that town) The mystery auctions can be really incredible buys just because of that element of uncertainty!
Yes--set your limit before you engage--very wise advice!

I might bid when it's almost over so I will definitely win it but that's if it's still within a reasonable cost.

welcome--one of my dearest friends had the same name--a world class diver who didn't survive diving the wreck of the Andrea Doria--brings good memories of a good person!
Keep in mind auction rules that ending time extends 5 mins after each bid until someone gives up. I sometimes bid early to see what the interest level is--the real action is at the end.
I've lost more than one auction due to my price limit and/or my patience. I've also won a mystery auction that no one else bid..."wherever you go, there you are"
