05-23-2008, 06:34 AMHelp honeymoon in July!! Caribbean?
I have looked many places but I really love the white beaches and teal water in the Caribbean. My honeymoon is just around the corner and the many options are a little overwhelming. If anyone has any ideas or suggestions I'll tell you what we like, well sort of. I'm a luxury girl and my fiance' is a drag racer......hows that ?? confusing Im sure
We have looked at Peter Island Resort definite possiblilty I love Cap J in Aguilla but it may be out of our budget a little. I would like privacy , a beautiful place to stay and an ocean view . Activities are fun but not all that important. Also we are trying to keep the budget below $6000 including food and flights if possible. Thank u so much for any suggestions u may have.

Re: Help honeymoon in July!! Caribbean?
Just returned from Anguilla (we go twice a year.) With your honeymoon in July, you should have a lot of options at great prices. It is definitely off season and occupancy is quite low. I asked in Anguilla and July is their lowest time. Look at some of the options on LL for example, Peter Island is listed. I toured Sheriva on Anguilla and you might want to consider that for an upscale get away. They use the Cap's beach and have sighing priveledges for the Cap. Also, Villa Nitanya in St. Barths would be really inexpensive for the trip. You would have so much money left over to enjoy the wonderful restaurants on island. Where are you flying from (East Coast??) I would love to help.

Thank u so much for the response. We are flying from Las Vegas. I actually just decided on a place a few days ago we are going to Peter Island Resort. It was listed on LL and the price was good and the island looks amazing. I'm very excited. So if anyone has gone there and has any info that would be wonderful thanks so much!

Well, I do hope you enjoy your trip! unfortunately, I haven't been to Peter Island Resort although most, if not all, reviews I've read gave the place a good score.

Hi, Peter Island was amazing
it was just as beautiful as the photos on the web site. I have some pictures I took on my myspace which is www.myspace.com/lisacash10 under honeymoon. Those are photos of the beach. The food was excellent, although you only had two restaurants to choose from they had two different buffets on two evenings and really changed up the menu. The pool was immaculate and the ocean and beaches flawless. The only thing I would add is we went July 20-27 although we had no issues with weather except a little rain ( the sun came out right away after) due to hurricane season it did stir the jelly fish in the ocean. On our snorkeling trip we were swimming in a sea of jelly-fish too many to count, my new husband was one of the first couple of people to jump in so I decided to follow. There were about 30 people and none got stung. That was amazing to me because it was a mine field of jelly fish. So I would go just a few weeks earlier to avoid that. Oscar De La Hoya was on the island when we were as well. It was truly paradise

Hi Lisa,
Your trip sounds excellent. I'm curious - how did you fly/travel to Peter Island and how long did it take from Las Vegas?
Thanks!

We flew from Las Vegas to Charlotte NC, then to San Juan, Puerto Rico and then to Beef Island (Tortola) . From Tortola they( Peter Island Resort) have a private ferry that takes u straight to the island. The total travel time was approx 10-12 hrs and the ferry ride was just about a half hr, with an hr between each flight. I will however warn you that on our return trip although we had 1.5 hrs between flights they took took long to get our bags out and we missed going thru the customs line by 2minutes. And in San Juan they basically refused to help us to make any other connection until the next morning ( which was very bad because the airlines said it wasn't their fault because our bags eventually came out and wouldn't pay for a hotel room or anything else for the night) . But because I have a lot of travel experience I Just found another agent and although we missed our connecting flight from San Juan to Miami then to Vegas he re-routed us from San Juan-Dallas-Las Vegas and we still made it home that night. So in the future I believe I will always leave at least 2.5 or more hrs between a flight when u have to go thru customs to catch my next flight. Even when u feel u have plenty of time always remember, they can pull you out of line for any reason ( which they did to us) and if your bags take longer it makes no difference to them either. So better to just give yourself plenty of time so not to be stressed. And the flight from San Juan to Tortola was just about an hr long , not bad at all. Oh and I forgot to mention that the staff on Peter Island were very helpful. My new husband does very well in the sun, I however scorched my backside while snorkeling( not alot of fun) the ladies on the island kept saying Mrs. Hanson ( my married name) you need the aloes. All along the island are aloe vera plants, so one of them had harvested some aloe leaves cut them in half and cut off the prickly part and brought it to my room. It is an expensive place to visit but the staff were very kind and helpful. And for those who have never been to the island just keep in mind "island time" is just that. A more laid back pace so if they don't seem as though they are jumping to wait on you it's not out of disrespect it's just a much slower pace. After a few days we fell right in step.

lisacash....rather than having each of us join your myspace, why not post one or two of your beach/resort photos in the Destination section of this community and give us more details about Peter Island.
Thanks.
