Hi folks,
We are going to HH Island (may 5-10) to visit my aunt (of advanced age) and want to know what to do all day....NO, we do not golf (too bad!) Also, can someone suggest a Best restaurant on the island...expensive is okay.
Ourfinal 3 days are at the Hilton Oceanfront Resort at Palmeto Dunes....anyone know this place? Is it really the best choice for the island? (I have time to rebook something.)
I apprecaite any help.

I don't golf either, but don't worry, the beaches alone are worth the trip. It's been several years since I've been to Hilton Head but I still remember a lovely dinner we had at the Cafe at Wexford. It's French, but not at all pretentious. Just a little storefront, lace curtain sort of place with wonderful food. I checked and it's still around:

Hello You will enjoy Hilton Head!!! You have to go to HUDSONS on the waterfront - watch the shrimp boats and dine on the BEST fresh seafood, reasonably priced and the hushpuppies are outrageous. Casual atmosphere great for lunch or dinner...sometimes we would go to both meals there Hudsons is that good! Generous with bar drinks too! Salty Dog Cafe is good also - walk the marina and shops here. Have Fun but make sure to get out of HH for awhile - very expensive there and a bit snooty the beach is wonderful but you may want to drive to Beaufort - also good beaches by St Helena Sound
? name of state park or Savannah is another nice drive and change of atmosphere. I'll try to remember our oceanfront hotel talk to you soon I envy your plans We really enjoy that part of the country - hope to retire there someday...Funtimes

Hi again S - Hey I had some other thoughts that may help you. Remembering that your location of choice now is a Robert Trent Jones golf course - Yikes if you don't golf why stay there? Try Sea Pines Plantation still beautifual and waterfront or the Holiday Inn Beachfront - YES Holiday inn believe it or not is quite a nice property on Hilton Head - their beach is wonderful. I also looked up the state park I was thinking of = Hunting Island state park toward Beaufort and St Helena sound. LL had some packages for Beaufort - Rhett Inn is a great place and good location - although you would need to drive to the beach.Enjoy a wonderful lowcountry trip!...Funtimes

thanks funtimes & fred....looks like good eating will be done on HH.
3 of our days will be with aunt shirley then we spend 2 days at the hotel.
I look forward to this trip. Thanks for your input & thanks to LL we are flying, not driving from NYC....long story. whew....I would hate being in a car all those days of vacation!!!! So we fly and spend time on the beach instead.

Way to go sks. Driving would surely take a HUGE chunk out of your vacation. We drove from Wisconsin to Arizona last time. It was OK - you have an opportunity to stop at many interesting places - in our case garden of the Gods, petrified Forest and the Painted Desert . we still prefer flying!!! Enjoy HH ...Funtimes
