hipmunk
Anyone else use www.hipmunk.com when checking for airfares? I pretty much use it as my "go to" site and then book the reservations directly with the respective airline web site, just the avoid to "third party" issues that raise their heads from time to time.

Thanks O. Have never seen this site. I tried it for our upcoming trip. It seems basically the same as farecompare.com. What benefits do you find from this site?

11-20-2010, 08:16 PMi've heard good things about this site. i think i read about it on wendy perrin's post or twitter.
i believe hipmunk is powered by ita software which was recently acquired by google, pending justice department approval. ita software is also a great place to check airfare. they don't sell airfare but they tell you the cheapest routes to take and give you the booking code to give to a travel agent. the only major airline they don't list is southwest.

that's odd--I posted a link to the site because it was CUTE! that post has since disappeared from the old forum
It doesn't serve a purpose for us at this time, but I found the marketing really FUN"wherever you go, there you are"

I've used ITA for a number of years to find the best flights and then I also go directly to the airline site to book.

Just tried this site and it said Continental was the lowest fare for my Mexico trip in march, however, Continental's own web site was actually cheaper! I usually always use the airlines own site when booking.

12-03-2010, 01:37 PM[email protected], so ultimately, you ended up getting the lowest fare by making the purchase on www.continental.com. I guess the way I look at the process, had you not checked www.hipmunk.com first, but rather decided to go directly to www.continental.com, without checking, there would have been the possibility of a cheaper fare existing on another carrier (if another carrier provides service over the same route) and you might have missed it.
