The problem with "hipness" is that these hotels tend to charge a lot for their flashiness and there's a lot of style and not much substance. I'm not into going to hip places where people go to be seen with other supposedly hip people. I'm also not into $14 drinks. Just give me a reasonably priced, conveniently located, clean hotel with a big room and a big screen T.V., a workout room and hot tub and I'm happy. I don't need throbbing music, bad lighting and overpriced drinks.

03-03-2011, 10:42 AMthepiranha, I think it is nice to have choices up and down the HIP scale and to be able to select the level which meets your budget and interests. I'll take some HIP now and then when I'm traveling with my hubby. For us, it is worth the extra cash to experience something different.

I was reading a review on TA about a hotel we will be staying at in Chile. The comment stated ..."so, if you are looking for any type of hip, this isn't your place." I loved the comment and felt the hotel then would be perfect for us!! Must have been an LL contributor who had just read our thread on hipness!!

03-09-2011, 08:02 AMSo, after reading all of the responses to the initial question and poll, I am wondering if it is the "Hip" aspect of these properties or the extra expenses often associate with these properties that evoke some of the negativity? Sounds like a lot of members would gladly accept "Hip" attributes, if the costs involved were offered at bargain prices. Actually, I guess the bargain issue for luxury living is what motivates most of us visiting and buying at Luxury Link.
So, I guess I am rethinking my initial response. I would be happy to stay at "Hip" properties, if I could buy them at deeply discounted rates (that includes reasonably priced meals and drinks as well).

One very reasonably priced hip hotel is the Aloft chain, part of the Starwood family. The rooms are somewhat small, but hip. And the rest of the facility is hip. I've stayed at the Philadelphia Airport Aloft hotel several times when I needed just a one night stay before an early morning flight. If you're looking for a hip hotel at a good price, try Aloft.

jmbklj...yep, I like the Aloft concept.....just spend two nights at the property in Charlotte at the Epicentre...rooms can be a little small, but everything is geared to the 'wire' and 'wireless' generations...I also like the re:fuel availability 24/7....I think the pricing if fair and I like adding to my Starwood points.
