It is a fairly new fee and a ridiculous one at that - I was going to do the Inn at Perry but when I asked if the fees could ever be waived, the hotel told me no so I did not bid on the package - a shame since it is a nice place and I wanted to go there in the spring ;-(

I guess the topic of resort fees has irked others enough that they are starting a petition against them, unless they are disclosed upfront. Since airlines must now disclose all fees upfront, it does seem reasonable that hotels and resorts do the same.

A flat fee is bad enough but a percentage of your room cost is absurd! I don't find the "extras" charged by the resort fee to be worthwhile to me. (free water??!!)

I find the fees for WiFi to be expecially ridiculous - some charge as much as $12.95/day - in this day and age, you should not be paying for WiFi in your hotel. I can understand a fee to use spa facilities and maybe a pool but make the fees on a usage basis - not everyone uses the spa, pool, etc.

Hi J.... We have been to the Inn at Perry Cabin 4 times. THey just started to add the fee in April of 2012. It is a new fee. I have not bid on another package because I was concerned about this fee (plus the $100 pup fee.) The fee seems to be based on what you pay and not the retail package value however, the fee still would be about $50. The services they had with the package were more useful in the summer and spring. I didn't see any benefit to this high cost.

We have not encountered too many resort fees as of yet. Charging a "Kurtax/Cultural City Tax" in Europe is pretty normal and usually the charge is nominal, about 1.50 to 2 Euros per person per night. However, in Italy this past year, the tax has risen to 6 Euros per person per night, but mainly only in the Luxury Hotels.
