    Hi kyshel,
AirFrance and KLM have pioneered this for a few months now. Any idea what the Delta costs are that are associated with the use of wi-fi service in the air? I assume it's not free....

this will be the first domestic carrier program in the US and I recall $9.95 for 2 hour flights and maybe $12.95 for the 3+ hr? I think the press release went out today.

kyshel...looks like AA launched the first US wireless service yesterday on 767 flights....at least the morning flight from MIA to NYC offered the service.

    Re: Inflight WI-FI

Did you take that flight? If so, how was it?
Just thought I'd elaborate on the original post:
"Delta to Become Only Major U.S. Airline to Offer Broadband Wi-Fi Access on Entire Domestic Mainline Fleet"
That's the title of the public press release dated August 5. Beginning this fall--ALL domestic aircraft will be enabled sometime mid year 2009.

I am looking forward to it, that's for sure! I certainly hope that all phones will continue to be disabled on ANY flights.

    Hi kyshel and O,
As I had mentioned earlier on this thread, AirFrance and KLM have pioneerd this for a few months now. I am with you kyshel however hoping that all phones will continue to be disabled an any flight. As far as I recall, in Europe, phone service was allowed on these flights. It must be quite disturbing sitting next to someone who is on the phone for the whole trip and you have no place to get away from that person.

    Re: Inflight WI-FI

Oh, that's horrid, Travelfan!! I hope the airlines get it--and not ALLOW phone usage--does anyone know a source to voice opinion en masse? It's bad enough sitting on any airport shuttle, then sitting at the gate with--oh, you've all seen and heard them--the cell phone user with loud voice--like the recipient of their call isn't wincing and covering THEIR ears?? SAVE US!! I really want to sit for 4-14 hours with those people??

kyshel....nope, wasn't on the flight, just read in the businesssectionabout the "excitement" of all the passengers boarding with the notebooks primed and ready to connect!

I can assure you there is now way I would spend the money or time to get on the Internet on a flight. I look forward to having a couple of hours disconnected!

    Re: Inflight WI-FI

While I agree with Mountie that it's nice to be disconnected every once in awhile (this is one of the main reasons I love going to remote parts of Africa -- no one can reach me!) I think the option of WiFi on flights would be great, particularly when travelling for business. I sleep on night flights but on long daytime flights (the 12-hour stretch from London to San Francisco that I do a few times a year springs to mind) it would be nice to have something to do other than watch endless movies.

    Cheers,
    Julian
