It's here - Delta's Announcement introducing a revenue FF requirement
Actually the new revenue requirement for the Delta frequent flyer program is not as high as I would have expected. Perhaps intentionally so for the first transition year.
FYI regarding the Delta announcement below....MQMs = Medallion Qualifying Miles and MQS = Medallion Qualifying Segments
Do you think other airlines will follow suit?
As a valued Medallion® member, you've earned exclusive privileges with us, and we want you to be among the first to know about updates to the program.
Beginning January 1, 2014, you will earn Medallion status through a combination of miles or segments flown and your annual spending on Delta flights, which will be measured by Medallion Qualification Dollars (MQDs). Specifically, here's how you will qualify for Medallion status starting next year:
Silver Medallion – you will need 25,000 MQMs or 30 MQSs and $2,500 MQDs
Gold Medallion – you will need 50,000 MQMs or 60 MQSs and $5,000 MQDs
Platinum Medallion – you will need 75,000 MQMs or 100 MQSs and $7,500 MQDs
Diamond Medallion – you will need 125,000 MQMs or 140 MQSs and $12,500 MQDs
If you have a U.S. Delta SkyMiles Credit Card from American Express you will have the new MQDs requirement waived each year you make $25,000 in eligible purchases using your card.
Second, starting March 1, 2013 we are changing a few of the MQM bonus levels on certain fares. F and J class fares will increase to a 100% MQM bonus and M class fares will no longer receive an MQM bonus. Y and B fares will remain at the current level, receiving a 50% MQM bonus. This change will go into effect for Delta-marketed flights for any purchases on or after March 1 and for OA with travel flown on or after March 1, 2013.
These changes will not change the way your redeemable SkyMiles (for Award Travel, etc.) are counted or redeemed.
The updates have been added to delta.com. Information about the changes to MQMs earned can be found at http://www.delta.com/content/www/en_...ith-delta.html and more information regarding MQDs can be found at www.delta.com/mqdsLife is too short.........travel now!

Thanks for sharing--all airlines are making changes very soon. Maybe DL is the leader on this issue?
Does this effect you? I'm no Medallion. Nothing for me because none of mine are "butt in seat". I get my miles from other sources. I'm sure OALs will follow shortly. All business is going to get worse--have you seen your first paycheck for 2013? UGHLast edited by kyshel; 01-17-2013 at 03:24 PM.

Welcome to the 'new normal' for frequent flier programs....everyone will be doing something similar in the near future.....maybe American Airlines will lag a little, since they are still working their way out of bankruptcy, starting their rebranding and trying to hold on to as many passengers as possible.
