Look what youcan get in 1st class with non-US airlines
In-Flight Amenities That Make Us Hope for Tarmac Delays - Yahoo! Travel
While US airlines go bankrupt - look what the others offer in 1st class - must be nice!

Once again, the US consumer is not willing to pay extra for these amenities. Pax are still screaming bloody murder over bag fees.
Funny thing is that most tarmac delays do not allow using any amenities, either. (gate delays, rarely, but not tarmac--that usually means active runway)"wherever you go, there you are"

Those are some great perks, but I can't see paying two, three (or even more) times the coach airfare for them. I fly to get from point A to point B as quickly and efficiently as possible. I'm going to be a happy camper (or flyer) as long as I get an aisle seat and there aren't too many delays or too many rude passengers on the flight.

So true - I guess this kind of stuff is why most of the foreign airlines always get rated in the top 10 and most US ones do not

Keep in mind many foreign airlines are covering a lesser routing than US ones so they can structure aircraft to fly once a day--not 3-4+ to carry fewer people altogether AND have lower labor costs involved in the price/mile.

01-02-2012, 06:31 PMWow, I especially like the "pre-mom" service! Since I only take long trips once or twice a year, I do like going business/first class, but on US airlines, first class isn't always decadent anymore.

If you can't be in first, I like the idea of "Skycouch" in coach. I wonder how much it costs compared to regular coach and first class.

Denise,
You just put this article up to make us jealous... to realize what US airlines are not giving us. We use upgrades to Europe where we can, even tried to come back by boat, no matter how you slice it, transatlantic flights are still a long slog... although a double-bed would make the flight a lot better.
I read somewhere, when transatlantic flights started out, in the early PAN-AM days, all planes had beds...

The article did make me very jealous - I want to use Singapore airlines one of these days just for the amenities -everytime I see a picture of the inside of their planes I dream of winning the lottery and being able to fly like that all of the time!

01-05-2012, 11:42 AMNot that I wouldn't accept First Class seating if offered as a no cost upgrade, but I'm more than comfortable flying Business Class on most foreign carriers and many US carriers.
