03-25-2009, 10:06 AMLooking for deals on Cruises
Hey guys, I'm looking to do a short family vacation between now and August 2009 timeframe. I'm looking for suggestions, deals, etc. We are located on the East Coast with family members in the NY and DC area of the US. I'm looking for a deal on possibly 6-8 adults and would like to do a short cruise of possibly 5-7 nights max. Does anyone have any suggestions, or know of any great deals that can be had? Please feel free to post. Thanks in advance.

What's your choice of destinations? Are you thinking one cabin/couple or sharing 3+?

Re: Looking for deals on Cruises
H A. My father enjoyed the delta queen cruises on the Mississippi. I think they are owned by Majestic? now. They are very easy for easy coast people. It is actually a paddleboat that stops at some historic cities along the Mississippi. Slow moving but quite scenic. It is also easy to get to. He flew directly from Philly to the different ports (Pittsburgh, St. Paul, etc.) (He did a few cruises.) These cruises are less populated than the big Caribbean cruises. The length of the trips are usually under 7 days. There are also nice fall foliage cruises that leave from Philly or Baltimore that go up the coast. Just some ideas. Do you want warm weather/beaches or scenic/historic?

Well, my family really wants to do something sunny and beachy. We were originally thinking about going to the Caribbeans. The Caribbean islands are typically close and easy for us on the east coast, plus we don't have to worry about the jet lag issues. We are still debating on whether we should get individual cabins or share a suite...so we are opened to both.

Re: Looking for deals on Cruises
Ok. Here is something a little different. Years ago we did the "Temptress" for a 4 night cruise in the Belize /Guatemala area. It was great. It was a 60 passenger boat (only 20 of us on board!!) We stopped at different "cayes" each day. It was so small, personal, and visited out of the way places. It would be nice for a family. (actually 10 of the members on board were a family!) I have read about a few ships that do this trip. For me, I like the smaller ships to out of the way places. This trip had fantastic snorkel stops. Not gourmet food or dress up but very casual...just a different idea for you?

Many of the luxury cruise lines such as Regent and Oceania are offering 2-for-1 speacials and sometimes free airfare which can make these a good deal depending on your budget as these cruise lines are all inclusive.

Re: Looking for deals on Cruises
asnpcwiz,
Take a look at Regent Seven Seas Cruises ( http://www.rssc.com/). They are a LL property. Only LL auction with them currently is to Alaska.
Check their website. One Tahiti cruise in July, 2009 is being offered 71% off.
Regent cruise pricing includes drinks and gratuities on their all ships. Additionally, Regent is currently offering a fantastic deal on their cruises. On several 2009 cruises, they are offering:
1) 2 for 1 cruise pricing
2) Free airfare
3) Free unlimited shore excursions
4) Kids sail free (and youth program complimentary)
The above is good for ALL remaining 2009 cruises IF booked by 05-31-09, otherwise just the selected ones.
In addition to the 2009 offers listed above, they are giving an additional $2000 off for several 2010 cruises if booked by 05-31-09 PLUS the listed 2009 offers (2 for 1 pricing, free air, free unlimited shore excursions, etc.)
What a deal! It should help you find something for your group. Most of their specials are listed on their page at:
http://www.rssc.com/specials/
Hope this helps. Happy vacation!

Carnival Cruise Lines, Royal Caribbean International, Celebrity Cruises, Norwegian Cruise Line, Princess Cruise, Holland America Line etc are famous cruise packages. Alaska, Bahamas, Bermuda, Caribbean and Hawaii are good places to enjoy cruise holiday tour.
