Re: Luxury Link vs American Express "Going Once" Auctions
Hi Mountie & Kysel
Thanks for the info Mountie. Auction just finished for Florence...last package sold for $5511. Nice package, good price. It was alot of fun to follow, and see it go down slowly. It was be a blast if LL could offer us something like that.

ack!! give us some time to figure out the new system with 4 daily auctions and semi-weekly mystery ones!! there are still so many people in the forum asking q's in the forum (they should-- confusion makes my brain smoke....!) particularly when the clues can be a bit on the slow side arriving (not lately, tho--thank you!)
just kidding--maybe a good idea down the road. Of course, the values are much better here! wink-wink
since my husband is out of town, I'm glued to that auction. I know I have no plan to buy one because I'm hoarding $ for the right LL auction...
in this case-
ciao y'all.
Re: Luxury Link vs American Express "Going Once" Auctions
Hi Everyone...
Scroll down even further on the Going Once Auction to the section called Great Travel Packages for under $3000.00. Yesterday's deal on the Going Once was to Florence and I believe the lowest price was around $5000+... whereas they have a 4 night package for $1650.00 plus a credit of $1000.00 towards airfare!!! Now this is a deal... and if I hadn't just visited Florence recently, I'd be snapping up this package.

Re: Luxury Link vs American Express "Going Once" Auctions
kyshel, I tried for Canouan Island, Florence and Antartica and could not get into the bidding. I guess American Express has done a great job advertising and there are just too many other bidders faster than me.
Re: Luxury Link vs American Express "Going Once" Auctions
Mountie--I had the same problem with Amex auction. Hey, I'm on highspeed dsl--wonder what the winners were on ? (drugs?? hahaha) I never got one bid in at all.
I'm working on bidding an internal auction at delta for charity-- confirmed biz elite seat vouchers to anywhere they fly. wish me luck! that trip to bali is looking better [if we don't have to stand-by]. As soon as I get the tkts, I'll have that Bali LL pkg to go with it--maybe a second one to piggyback--maybe Thailand or ____? This our dream trip of a lifetime (while we're still young enough--50 is young, right?!)
I was watching a last minute deal a few years ago-for Antarctic cruise that offered cabins for $199 and positive air from Sanitiago to Ushaiaa (sp?arg) for $99. They just wanted to fill the ship. My husband thought I was crazy to go on a ship and wear a parka for 10 days. Needless to say, we didn't and it hasn't been offered since!
Carpe dealum, y'all!!

Re: Luxury Link vs American Express "Going Once" Auctions
My fiancee and I have wanted to go on an Antarctic cruise for a while, but I'm sad to hear that there hasn't been one offered in a couple years. We're both relatively new to the site, but we're both really pleased with the deals one can get. If they come up with another cruise to Antarctica, we're gonna have to fight for it!;)
Re: Luxury Link vs American Express "Going Once" Auctions
Hi again, drhass. Sorry if I confused you--the offering I was talking about was not from LL. I'm sure Norwegian Coastal (advertised heavily here) still has pkgs--maybe in a la carte section? My comment was not about LL-so sorry for the mix-up. I'd be pretty sure that if LL could get a great auction item going, it would be gone gone gone in no time!
Re: Luxury Link vs American Express "Going Once" Auctions
I saw the previews for the AmEx auctions. Having been away for a bit, I missed the bulk of them. Are these auctiuons offered once yearly?? Or will they be offered on an ongoing basis. Also, do you have to be registered to see the auction price declining?? Just curious - I always had good luck withLL. Thanks.
Re: Luxury Link vs American Express "Going Once" Auctions
I, too, would like to know if the "going once" auctions will be repeated or if that was a one (9) shot deal?
Re: Luxury Link vs American Express "Going Once" Auctions
.......we have attempted to bid in several of the pastAmerican Express on-line auctions, including the "Going Once" Auctions which recently concluded. So far, we have never been able to evenenter a bid....the messages always indicate the system is "busy" and we should "try again." We have tried on both DSL and High Speed Access lines without any success. Apparently, the participation levels for their on-line auctions are astronomically high. As interesting as their past offers have been, in our opinion, many of their packages were not bargains when compared to most of the auctionpackages we have bought through LL.
