Since I usually go away for 10-14 days at a time I need to have a check in bag - I have not reached the point where I can put 2 weeks worth of stuff in 1 small carryon! I do not think there should be fees for any persons 1st bag - I can see paying for extra bags but the 1st bag and 1 carry on should be included in the price just like I feel some sort of snack or meal should be included - the airlines are getting out of hand with these fees and now they are raising prices again due to fuel costs. Come on - enough is enough

Michael; there is a huge cost associated with ramp workers, conveyors, delayed baggage (regional/mainline carriers) insurance etc for checked baggage. With the exception of Spirit Air, most carriers prefer carry-on pax, as long as the bin space is there and they comply w/regs. (yeah, we all know the kitchen-sinker stinkers!!)
I can go for 2 wks+anywhere there is a laundry with my carry-on. It breaks down to a roller and removable city pack (see Sierra Lite) and I don't need a handbag (it fits in the pack portion) I just got the 22" version for my husband to use a crew bag. It's almost HUGE and weighs less than 10# empty.
We plan to get another for me to replace my 19" for longer hauls in cold weather."wherever you go, there you are"
