I am familiar with many of the properties on LL. In my humble opinion this property should not be included on this site. I have stayed there...3 out of 10.

I know I'd like to know more specifics that rated it so low in your book. Please elaborate.
Thanks!
Yes, please -- it would be great if we could learn more about your experience. Was it the service? Room? Location? I've had very good luck with my LL bookings but that's partially due to the information provided by other LL travellers who have stayed at places I'm considering.
Cheers,
Julian
Hi ayrgirl. I am heading to DC this weekend for my husband's 50th birthday. We will be staying at the Fairmont (they except pets.) I did call the Melrose and they seemed so nice and their website looks lovely. Can you tell us more of your experiences? We were hoping to use this property in the future. (they also accept pets.)
PS- Any words on the Fairmont????
Hi Folks:
It would be interesting to know if management has changed since April 2006. Perhaps a indirect question for those of you inquiring...i.e. "And how long has your company been managing this property?"
In any case - I love the fact that there is dialogue on this site - this was my first posting.
The Melrose:
Decent location - midway between DC attractions and very close to GeorgetownTruly in my opinion a glorified motel - only the lobby (shown in photos) has had a face-lift. I contrast this with a boutique hotel in NYC on 44th (I think), the Iroquois, which has not only upgraded its lobby, but its rooms and would be Boutique luxury (no, not the Royalton but decent). The state of repair in our bathroom was circa 1970 with the shower/bath taps barely attached to the wall, staff was in no hurry to service our concernThe carpets and bedspreads very tired, I would classify as worn. We didn't want to spend much time in the roomI have not stayed at the Fairmont property in DC but Fairmonts maintain a high standard. The Melrose wouldn't even make the grade
Would love your feedback on better DC properties folks.
Best,
AG
Hi AyreGirl,
Welcome to the LL Community. I appreciate your description and assessment of the Melrose Hotel in Washington DC. We were considering the auction. The price seemed very reasonable for DC. However, it looks like you get what you pay for according to your description. Thanks and keep the posts coming....
Just returned from DC. We saw the location of the Melrose and the location is fine. We did call about pets and they allow pets with a non-refundable fee.
We stayed at the Fairmont and LOVED it! Got it through LL a la carte offerings. What a great deal. Great location within walking distance of Washington Harbour and Georgetown. The other monuments and sights are also within walking distance or trolley. Our room was on the 10th floor and very large for a city property. Great front desk and concierge service. Great restaurant with great employees. Highly recommend it and looking forward to returning.
I did a travel blog under"Travel Blogs" on DC with our pup.
Thank you so much for your follow up BonnieJoy. It sounds like the Fairmont was a real winner!

Thanks for the head's up, AyrGirl! We, here in the community, appreciate valid comments and criticisms. I have been looking at the Melrose, but now will be pointed elsewhere!

Is there any current opinion on the Melrose?
If I use a gift certificate it's no cost, but I really hate to waste one on substandard accommodations. Most of the reviews on tripadvisor seem to indicate it's way below a 4-star property--somewhat motel-like once you pass the lobby. Doesn't exactly seem like LL standards. Anyone have recent experience?
Thanks!
