Re: The Melrose Hotel, Washington D.C.
Hi K! It is located near the Fairmont. They do accept pups (100 nonrefundable fee!) So, you could take Bonnie Joy with you if you wanted to! Other than that, I don't have too much info on the service or rooms. I like the location though.

Re: The Melrose Hotel, Washington D.C.
We stayed the Melrose at the end of April for four days. I have to agree that it was some where between a 2 and a 3 star hotel. The ceiling had water stains on it and the walls were dirty and needed painting every thing was warn and the sheets were borrowed from the Best Western or Motel 8.
I didn't want to spend too much because my husband was taking his first flight ever and he may not have gotten on the plane. I figured losing $600 was easier than $1200 or more...
It is a great location, but I would never go back unless it was completely redone. I'd take Bonnie Joy's advice and go the the Fairmont or look for a place in the Dupont Circle area , we like a few restaurants there.
Any hoo.. We bought the AKA Ritten House Square auction and we'll be needing some advice on were to eat etc. I'll make a thread when we get ready to go. I think I'll be looking at a Boston package next anyway.
BYW: My husband was able to get on the plane with just a little medication and no incident. He said he would fly again, even to europe. We may be going next spring...

Re: The Melrose Hotel, Washington D.C.
Hi I....great post. Thanks for the update on the Melrose. It was still on my "to do" list. I think I will stay with the Fairmont. The Melrose does take pets though but I believe it is a $100 fee. (The Fairmont does not charge a fee.) I do plan to visit the Melrose on my next visit to DC.
Good luck with planning your Philly trip...must catch a Phillies baseball game but good luck getting tickets!! Definitely head to the waterfront to try some of the restaurants and activities. Check go philly on line to see what type of concerts, festivals, etc are happening.

What a coup to get your husband flying! Congrats on that and thank you for the update on the Melrose. Much appreciated info.

12-03-2010, 10:12 PMOnce you get room at lower price, do not forget to ask about extra charges you have to pay for parking, visitor taxes and other small fees hotels charges. Sometimes the amount of these expenses exceeds the cost for which you get a room and all your savings are eaten up.

Thanks M. That is so true. We have found this in DC and Baltimore. The good news is to research prior to your trip. The first time to Pier One in Baltimore, we paid the valet parking. It was quite expensive. On our 2nd trip, we found very discounted parking a few blocks away. It worked great for us to save this extra money....Good point!
