Montreal

Can some Canadians, especially those familiar with or living in the city,post some suggestions for a long weekend (maybe in late March or early April)in Montreal. Which hotels being offered at auction would you recommend? How about a couple of ideas for restaurants (is Milos really really worth the money)? What would you suggest as a "Not To Be Missed" while in town?



LL always seems have a nice selection of Montreal properties (we checked some of them on www.tripadvisor.com) .

We were very pleased with a LuxuryLink package we got for the Hotel Place d'Armes in Montreal.

The hotel is in a beautifully restored and decorated old building in the historic part of town, not far from the old port area. The hotel was lovely and cozy with exposed brick and a great bathroom. The service was nice and included complementary champagne in the lobby every evening. The LL package also included dinner at a wonderful French restaurant in the cellar of a historic building.



Even though we went to Montreal between Christmas and New Years and it was FREEZING, I would go back again then in a heartbeat. The hotel and many restaurants had fireplaces, the streets were not crowded and strolling the streets of the old part of town at night made me think I was in Paris (but driving distance from home).

I would say that amoung the hotels posted at auction the one I would alsochoose Hotel Place d'Armes. As mentioned above this hotel is in a beautifuly restored building, and very well situatedin Old Montreal. The hotel that I would mostlike to see offered on LL would have to be Hotel St.James. Montreal is known for its great restaurants, Milos is one of them. We usually go to Milos for lunch, because I find it over priced for supper.My favoriteitalian restaurant in Montreal is LUCCA on Dante, near St.Laurent (need a car or taxi from the hotel) in a district called Little Italy. RSVP necessary.If you like gourmet szechan food try Soy also on St.Laurent. Also, the Mount Stephen's Clubis a beautiful private club open on Sundays only to the public for a wonderful brunch.

If you stay atHotel Place d'Armes, you will be in Old Montreal; a place to just stroll the streets and go into the many boutiques.Depending on the weather, you can visitthe old port. You can also try to secure reservations at Place des Arts for a ballet, opera or a symphony. We are alsoknown formuseums, two of my favoritesare hteMontreal Museum of Fine Arts and The Contempory Arts Museum. The contemporary museum is great because on Wednesday, from 6-9, you can get in free! If you have time visit the Casino. Also Montreal is known for its many festivals-Look up to see if there is a festival while you are here. Omegaet, hope this helps,

Hello,

Looking at those lovely photos makes me want to go back to Montreal. I visited in December 2006 and got caught in the great ice storm which meant that I didn't see much of the city other than the underground mall and the Ritzx-Carlton (the only restaurant in town which was still serving food since it had its own generator).

BTW, how do you get the photos into your post?

How unfortunate to visit us during the ice storm. That was quite an experience even for us who live here. We were without electricity for six days.Thank goodness you were in a place that had a generator. With that said, you must not have had the best vacation.Hopefully you will give us another chance. There is so much to visit, and experience.. you never get bored in Montreal. Now with the differentselection of hotels offered on LL, you can get some great deals on super hotels.

Wow, did we all go to Montreal in the same ice storm or are there storms after storms after storms? We went to Montreal last year in February. The first evening was so nice. We checked into the Hotel Nelligan and then walked around. The hotel is in the Old Port area of the city. We ate at Stash Cafe which was a polish restaurant a few streets away. We had a great time and the food was excellant. Got up the next morning and an icy rain/snow had started the night before. Eveything was covered in a thick sheet of ice and snow. The weather was vicious. We attempted to go shopping but we got scared because it really was dangerous. We picked up some champagne and snacks and went back to the room where we just chilled out. We went to the wine and snack offering that night at the hotel and it was nice. Each night you get one glass of wine per person and they brought out different snacks to eat. We then went to the IMAX theatre which is close by. We didn't eat anywhere that night because we filled up on popcorn and junk. The next day we went to one of the farmers' markets which was a subway trip away. I think it was the Jean Talon Market. It still was very dangerous to walk but we were very careful and it was stressful. The market was great. It reminded me of the markets we saw in France which of course, Montreal is French. We had a great time walking around and eating. We went to the the Notre Dame church which is very close to the hotel. It is beautiful. I think it is one of the prettiest churches we have ever seen - and we have been thru Italy and France on several occasions. We went back that night for the light show. The beginning was cheesey and both of us were saying, oh crap, but then it changed. The light show ended up being really nice, and I would recommend it to anyone. We ate at the hotel that night as it was part of the package. The meal was very good and the service was excellant. The next day we shopped. We went to all of the art galleries and stores. We bought a painting in one of the galleries and picked up some little artsy items. We ate lunch at Stash Cafe again, and as before, we were happy with our meal. Because it was very tiring and still scary walking on the ice, we went back to the hotel. I made reservations for a two hour massage and it was very enjoyable. We went to the IMAX theatre for another night. You can taxi right to it. We enjoyed the movie and after the movie went back to the hotel where we ordered room service. The room at the hotel was nice. It was large and the bathroom was also very roomy. The bathroom had a whirlpool tub and separate shower. The bed was king sized, with nice linens, there was an electric fireplace which threw off no heat, and the room was nicely decorated. The walls were stone or brick, I can't remember which, and it seemed as if you just couldn't warm the room up. I'm sure that was because of the weather, but we wore sweaters while sitting around, and we like cold rooms. My only complaint was that at night while lying in bed, you could hear what was going on in the room next to us. My husband wants to go back in the summer because you could tell that summertime is great. All the restaurants had outdoor seating areas and the squares had areas set aside for entertainment. There were tons of restauarants, and we were sorry we couldn't see more but walking was definitely a scary proposition. While we were happy with the hotel and the price we paid, I think we would stay at another hotel on our next trip simply because of the noise issue.
