Napa Valley
Hi All... I need help organizing a week long vacation package in Napa Valley, CA. for 6 people. I'm trying to put a surprise birthday party for my husband and am inviting 2 other couples... and I'm paying for it (OUCH!). So I'm thinking some sort of 3 bedroom villa in Napa or perhaps someplace else interesting during the month of July, 2008. We'd be flying in from all different points in the USA, but all couples are willing to pay for their flights (as long as the location is in the USA)... so I just need a great spot for the week. Any thoughts?

Re: Napa Valley
Hi CMDA,
Funny you should mention Napa. I've been doing some general searches within California for great weekend escapes and there are so many excellent sounding packages right now within Sonoma, Napa and even farther north in Mendocino. In fact, here's one that might be of interest as it is for 4 people in Mendocino (you could maybe add another suite to round out your group

I'm not familiar with Mendocino myself but have always heard that it is gorgeous and July would definitely be a good (not chilly) time to be there. As for Napa/Sonoma, you really can't go wrong basing yourselves at any of the little towns. Then you could arrange a fun (limo?) tour of the local wineries - make sure you have a designated/hired driver so that you can all enjoy yourselves! The wineries are quite spread out along the main Napa and Sonoma valley roads so there will be a lot of driving involved in any wine tasting excursion. What a wonderful birthday party idea! There are excellent restaurants as well in the Napa and Sonoma valleys.
I highly recommend doing an Advanced Search for California and see what comes up in any of the wine countries. You could apply your new $500 gift certificate towards one of the packages!

Re: Napa Valley
Hi Claassenam,
Thanks for the link to Stevenswood. FYI, I use to live in San Francisco and would scoot down to Mendocino often... and have stayed at the Stevenswood before. A very lovely place. The best time to go to Mendocino is in August/September to avoid the fog that can roll in and make it very cold during the day. I also agree with you about renting a limo to allow for wine tasting in the Napa/Sonoma valley. We usually do this when we are in a wine tasting area... nothing worse than being the designated driver in a great wine area!
