Great list, thanks for sharing it here. I have been to a few of the places, and still have others on my bucket list. Dresden, this year, was amazing. What a great city! Like a Phoenix rising out of the ashes.

Good to see Guatemala added! Everyone always says...."Why do you go to Guatemala!" (If you have to ask why, you would never understand!)

Many things can be said about visiting Guatemala. For certain, the areas around Lake Atitlán will afford you the opportunity to be a 'time traveler' of sorts. If you choose to immerse yourself into the Mayan cultures of the various villages adjacent to Casa Palopo, you will experience so much more than visitors who limit their time to Antigua. CP is a great place, even with the recent change of ownership and management direction.

Yes, some of the management changes made it a bit challenging to confirm my dates.
First, I tried emailing a request directly to CP but it came back as undeliverable (wrong email address published). I called CP and spoke to a Jennifer - not the Jennifer the LL Community knows from the past. In fact, I wonder if she is still there. The other CP Jennifer does not speak English well so there were communication challenges. I emailed using the correct address but the response came back as if there was no LL package or arrangement. It appeared there was plenty of availability but the challenge was getting written confirmation & recognition of the specific LL details.
Thank goodness for the services of LL concierges - Justin, Dena & especially Sonia's spanish skills. I'm all set now with CP, flights are booked......working on the rest. Very excited! Guatemala here I come (in March)!Last edited by jmbklj; 12-09-2011 at 03:15 PM. Reason: typo

Hi J...It is a shame you hadn't met our "Jennifer." She was amazing. However.....the property is in a lovely area, the rooms and ambiance are amazing. You should have a great time!! Where else will you visit on this trip?

I regret to say that I've been to only five of the National Geographic hotspots. That being said, the inclusion of Pittsburgh on this list makes me doubt the credibility of such a list. I went to high school in Pittsburgh and moved back for two years after completing college and have gone back almost every year for over thirty years. Pittsburgh and Sonoma as the only two U.S. cities in this group? Yeah, sure.

We can only get away for 7 days. We'll spend a couple of days in Antigua first, then off to the Lake, and finally 1 night at Westin on points the night before our flight home. From reading past posts, this sounds similar to one of your past itineraries. We haven't decided on the Antigua hotel yet. I'm looking at the ones on Elizabeth's site. And most importantly, for my husband who is a bug guy, I got us into first class flights.
