new guidlines travel aucion of the day?
Darn DarnDarn!!!I missed the travel auction of the day high bidder!!!!!(Antigua) I posted very late last night - auction ended 10:am the next day. Rats!!! I had to work with my boss and had no way of logging on What do you think LL and LL community - can we have "proxy" bidders or could we arrange with an LL customer service rep how high we are willing to go??? LL community do you think telling LL our top price would taint the auction? I'm trusting ...are you as a commmunity? Any suugestions??? Could we call on our fellow LL pals to bid for us up to our limit? Please advise as to suggestions - when an auction end date is near and we can not personnally be close to a computer What is the solution??? Thanks in advance...Funtimes

Re: new guidlines travel aucion of the day?
interesting idea...
I had my poor husband complete my last auction because I couldn't get back from taking my dad to the doctor. He came through, on my PC, and we got it, but I was really nervous about it since he'd never bid on anything before!"wherever you go, there you are"

Re: new guidlines travel aucion of the day?
Funtimes - I keep having this same problem, which has resulted in my pushing off and pushing off bidding on the packages I've been eyeing....and running the risk of losing out on them forever. It seems that most of the auctions close at 9 or 10 AM PST - right when I am my busiest at work! Somehow, I don't think my boss would understand my spending a good half hour on an auction site - especially when it involves my taking a couple weeks off work!

Not sure what the solution is, this is part of why I enjoy EBay's firm auction close time. I understand why LL doesn't do it that way, but whenever more than one person is bidding on a package it ends up adding quite a bit of time to the final auction time.....

Re: new guidlines travel aucion of the day?
Thanks for your sympathy kyshel and Classenam I hope the LL moderator steps in to let us know if an alternate bid person can be arranged Hard to believe my husband does not know how to use a computer...so that's no help He says that he knows how to turn a computer OFF! Once my boss did not get a report that was due, I had to phone my huband long distance and walk him through the steps to print out my report This must have been the longest long distance call of my life When I told him to move the mouse he went WOW and I new I was in trouble- anyone remember the first time you saw the cursor whiz around the page? Anyway I can't really talk - I'm no techy that's for sure! Back to travel ...now bidding on another package that ends tomorrow again at 10am We will be in Chicago Ohare airport then waiting to board a flightI do not have a laptop Hoping someone may give me a break and allow me to borrow their computer This is so frustrating and downright embarrassing that I may actually ask a stranger to borrow their computer just so that I may bid on an LL escape YIKES!!!

Re: new guidlines travel aucion of the day?
All of the auctions I've bid on have had closing times around 2-3pm PST, so I have the opposite problem because I'm on EST. I put sticky notes on the computer, fridge and bathroom mirror to remind me to ck the bids!! Once, I was staining the deck--I had to keep taking off my gloves and coming inside to see if anyone bid against me. Ultimately, it didn't matter, because I was the only bidder--but it was a nerve-wracking experience. I guess I'd better thank my husband again?
PS--loved the story about your husband and the mouse (has he used it since??) Good luck funtimes--I hope you get it!!

Re: new guidlines travel aucion of the day?
I love this conversation! I am also on EST. Also, at my work, we get "censored" across the screen!!! So, I am stuck and not able to browse or participate. My husband is able to do the bidding and he conference calls me in. Takes the fun away from me watching it though!! Plus, I am more dramatic than him and I need to know every detail, etc. Oh well.....Love the auctions that happen when I am home and can participate!!

Re: new guidlines travel aucion of the day?
Hello,
Please spare a thought for those of us in Europe -- the ones that end in the evening Pacific TIme are deadly for us!
That being said, I don't really like the thought of proxy bidding, as the proxy snipers on Ebay have made what was a fun way to get a good deal into an exercise in extreme frustration. I can't count the number of times I've been 'sniped' at the last minute on antiques I was really hoping to get for my house.
Cheers,
Julian

Re: new guidlines travel aucion of the day?
Interesting comments on proxy bidding and time changes. I suppose that is what makes us true LL addicts. Good news however, we did win the Antigua package!!!! There was a mixup with the computer - probably on my end.I did not receive the messages validating the win. I was browsing through past auction results to see what the vacation went for and it seemed that the amount was indeed my bid. Upon calling customer service I was informed that I had won!!! Yeah all is well and we now have our dates plus and extended stay with the resort AND frequent flier miles as well Yeah Yeah!!!Nancy Taylor was kind to fax me the info immediately. I'm still interested in the proxy bid idea let me know what you think. Oh and no my husband has never returned to the computer for any reason. Old dog new tricks thing I guess. Happy LL travels...Funtimes
