....did you read the short article on page 47 regarding Chilean Tiaca Honey? I bet you didn't even buy a jar when you were in Puerto Montt. We tasted it....bought a couple of jars and actually pair it with good cheese.
Also on page 35, there is the story about Backstrap Weaving in Guatemala....did you see any of the Mayan ladies doing this when you walked down the hill from CP into Santa Catarina?
We watched an older lady working on a lovely design for the entire week we were there (seems like she only progressed about two or three inches during that period of time). We finally decided to purchase one of her pieces, which is sometimes used to drape across our dining table.

Hi O....I think I saw the first edition. Haven't seen these new articles but they sound wonderful. Will have to get a subscription. My sister sent me one edition form Phoenix. I haven't seen the magazine at the stands?

They also have a very interesting blog:

So are you saying that the $19.95 is well worth it?

betsyv....we haven't subscribed to AFAR.....at least, not yet.
I picked up the most recent issue in the airport and glanced through it during a two hour flight. Lot of photos and short articles...guess they are more or less still in the development stage of the publication.
I guess we are intrigued with their professed travel philosophy, since we tend to lean in a similar direction.
Tough time to start up another travel publication....doubtful their current advertisers paid much, if anything to be in the first few issues. For the present, I'll just pick up copies for inflight entertainment and see if they last.
I do follow their twitter, which produces some interesting tips from other followers.....and yes, their blog is worth reading.- Ω -

I also went to the site and signed up for a free copy. I looked at the blog and it was OK - nothing much new - seems like they are trying to be Travel and Leisure. Probably will not subscribe.
I tend to like the more esoteric blogs - try bootsnall.com
Interesting site and blogs, etc. for the independent travel folks.

I didn't want to sign up for the "free" copy as when you read it, there will be an invoice and you will be charged for a full subscription unless you cancel it after you get the first copy. I have always been bit by this practice as I am so busy, I either forget to cancel or just don't have the time.
Thanks for the extra blog to check out!

Yes, AFAR will charge you for a subscription if you don't mark your bill, "CANCEL." However, you don't have to provide any credit card information when you request your free copy, so how are they going to charge you?
