Re: Luxury Link VIP Events
Hi O,
thanks for the post. I remember that poster tictoc, he/she had some pretty mean things to say!
I think the moderators jumped in with a similar statement in regards to the ratings the last time I "whined" about the ratings system. Obviously, they want us to do it, I'm just not sure how it helps. LL certainly isn't the only web site that asks that comments be rated, I've seen that at tripadvisor, Amazon, etc. However, the other boards generally ask that the reviews, not the messages be rated, which makes a lot more sense to me. I can easily ask the question, "was this review helpful to me?" and hit yes or no. However, a message board is more conversational and there are a lot of posts in the gray area where it doesn't matter if it is helpful or not because it is a conversation. That's when posts begin being rated due to completely subjective criteria such as whether or not somebody agrees with it, whether or not it was a long post, etc.
Another thing I've found is that somebody will begin a message thread with a simple question, so simple it might receive a 2 or 3 "star" rating. Then, it turns out a lot of people are interested in that topic so that thread picks up a lot of hits and has great information. That may be a thread packed with great information but when you are looking at the main topic page all you see is the subject line and 2 or 3 "stars" so somebody who isn't reading every new message like we do may skip it, thinking it's not worthwhile.
Wow, I am really harping on this point, truly it isn't that big a deal to me, just a minor annoyance really! In the end I love this board and I'm very happy to have found it. I also just received my $500 gift certificate and cannot wait to use it! Thanks for humoring me in reading this blathering post.....

Re: Luxury Link VIP Events
.....we have only oneobservation regarding the "ratings," sincethematter is really tangential to theoriginalsubject of this board [LUXURY LINK VIP EVENTS]. If you notice, Lithium www.lithium.com isthe techcompany that actually provides "some", "most" or "all" of the web infrastructure for Luxury Link (it has to be more cost effective to outsource this componnent rather than attempt to buildthe structurein-house). Lithium operates a number of similar communities for internet based companies desirous of feed back and interaction with their on-line customers. The "ratings" feature is aintegral component of these system operated by Lithium. The "community" in which we are participating is likely an off-the-shelf version of a standard community offered by Lithiumwith some Luxury Link customization.
So, we don't knowwhy LL wants the ratings feature in this community and we really don't know what LL does with the compilation of the ratings. If all else fails.....we can just rate away.... "high" or "low" and see what happens! If its feels good...DO IT!- Ω -

Re: Luxury Link VIP Events
Good point, O - I guess I can't ask LL to change the entire platform for the message board based on my minor annoyance with the rating system! I'll carry on with my ratings, maybe we'll find as more and more people join in the ratings really will help narrow the field for VIP Contributors.
Sorry we got off track from the LL VIP events - as I said, I do look forward to hopefully being invited to and being available for the event in NYC.

claassenam & other VIP Contributors....in a recent communication we had with the main LL office in LA, we inquired about the anticipated date for the next event. The date has not been finalized. We were told an announcement will be made as soon as details are available.

Hi all - again very interesting I agree with LL - happy they pointed out a member who has bashed others repeatedly As a new VIP I think the ranking system is working - agree that we should all try to rank according to merit. I truly enjoy the commentary and often only read - not posting I've found it easy to write individuals by email often and continue dialogues outside of public view. I do believe in thank yous - just not ranking those Take Care - as always enjoy the posts ...Funtimes

Hi omegaet
Since you seem to be in frequent contact with the main LL office in LA, please keep the rest of us VIPs informed on any new developments on the date of the up-coming VIP Reception in NYC by posting it on the LL Community as soon as you have a definitive date. Several of us already have tentative travel plans in the works but would like to coordinate these with the special event at the Pierre, if at all possible. Thanx.

Re: Luxury Link VIP Events
Have any of you VIP Contributors received any additional information regarding the upcoming Luxury Link VIP Event? Wasn't it supposed to be scheduled for May in NYC?bonniejoy03 wrote:
What! That would be wonderful! Is there any truth to this? Where did you hear this? We have been in the vicinity quite often but never have received an "invitation". My dream! I am heading to those parts in September. Should I wait to book my air...hehehaha......

Re: Luxury Link VIP Events
Hi travel2fun
I for one have not had any news about the VIP Reception at The Pierre in NYC. Have regularly scanned the LLCommunity Announcements for an update or any definitive information on this Special Event, but so far have seennone. I hope there'll be some informationfor the VIPs soon, as it's making it difficult to plan ahead for other travel in order not to preclude being able to attend the event this year.

It looks like the folks at LL are running alittle behind in their schedules. As I recall, the original information regarding the VIP Event mentioned May in NYC. Also, there was supposed to be a drawing for a free vacation after the first six months following the start up of this community and that appears to be a little behind schedule. Maybe the LL_Moderators or the LL_Editor could offer some insights. Thank you.

Re: The Next Luxury Link VIP Event
Well, I think that it would be safe to say that we can plan our summer vacations without being worried of missing the VIP Event at The Pierre in NYC. Today I had a converstion with Nancy Taylor and she mentioned that they are working hard with many changes on the LL site. It seems to be more work than anyone bargained for, and they are back logged. She said that when the date is determined we will have plenty of time to plan and attend.
