Re: The Next Luxury Link VIP Event
Hi kyshel
I believe the last one took place in Los Angeles about a year and a half ago (sometime in early 2006). There was an LL Newsletter posted (see weblink set out below in omegaet's recent post) on this websitelastfallthat provided details of the VIP event with photos of some of the then-VIP Contributors. I seem to recall mention of an earlier VIP event as well which took place in NYC at The Pierre Hotel (perhaps in 2005). There has been a lot of chatter on the Community about the up-coming VIP Reception also to be held at The Pierre in NYC (according to LL staff and as stated in the Fall 2006 Newsletter)) sometime late this year (i.e. 2007). But, since no date has been announced by LL as yet, it seems less and less likely as each day passes and summer turns into fall that such an event will actually take place in 2007. So, it may be 2008 before VIPs can get together and meet face to face at last. Let's hope so!

Re: The Next Luxury Link VIP Event
Hi two2go,
Thanks for asking, we have been fine but busy, traveling more than ever.... Yes, it is unfortunate that after 120 posts we still have no reply from LL, not even a hint, when the NYC event might be takeing place. It certainly would help to just get an approximate date so we can make some sort of plans... as I said, if the event in NYC does not take place between now and the end of October, we are out... our schedule will take us back to Florida and Paris. I would have loved to meet you and all the other interesting VIP Contributors... Where are you off to between Oct. and Feb.???

marolyn, I think we can safely assume the much discussed VIP Event has been placed on an undetermined hold. Probably luxury link is adjusting their marketing plans and really have no reason to assemble their clients and other business relations until everything is firm up. I look at it this way, if they hold the event and we get an invitation, it's just another bonus. It's not like we paid for something and we're not getting it!

Hi mountie
Much as I dislike the idea, I think you're likely right about the next VIP event having been put on hold by the good folks at LL. Unfortunately, it now seems as if hard-nosed business concerns are taking precedence over any others. Too bad, I for one and many ofthe other currentVIP Contributors would have really liked having the opportunity to meet face-to-face at the gathering of VIPs to be held at the Pierre Hotel in NYC. Oh well, maybe we'll do so in 2008?

Re: The Next Luxury Link VIP Event
I've been a contributor on a few other discussion boards. They mainly were break offs of a few original boards no longer up. So, many posters were acquainted across several boards. We would have gatherings that we called fests. There have been fests all over the U.S. Britain and Norway now.
If you really want to get together than it's best to plan it yourselves. IMO. Also, I know NYC is expensive, but LL only seems to know about the $1000 a night rooms there. I doubt too many of the bargain hunters on here would be interested for those prices. I maybe wrong, but that is my impression.

Imbues, I agree with your first statement. If LL posters want to get together I think waiting for LL to come up with their "annual event" will have us waiting a long, long, long time! On the other hand, by our very nature LL posters are travelling constantly - I think the logistics of getting everybody together in one place will be rather difficult. I do think NYC would be a great place to gather, however!
Regarding your second point, I really don't understand where you are seeing $1000/night hotel rooms, Imbues. I just scrolled through the first 5 New York City auction offerings that came up and they were all around $300-$500/night. Expensive for some, yes, but as New York hotels are notoriously expensive and these were well-rounded packages at very nice hotels, I think the prices seem quite fair. I wouldn't exactly describe the typical LL buyer/poster as a "bargain hunter". How about seeking the best prices at 5-star accomodations? But if you follow the prices paid for most of the auctions many people are paying well over $500/night for hotels and resorts.

That's too funny... :smileyvery-happy: "seeking the best prices for 5 star accommodations." I do like nice things at the best price I can get. So, I'll conceded that I may have been describing myself as a bargain hunter. :smileytongue: I wish I could find the $300 a night rooms in NYC on here. The $500 a night rooms are out of my budget I certainly wouldn't spend that to sleep a hour away from me anyway. I'd rather come home and save the $500 for some place else. Yes, many of the auctions are out of my budget, but not all. Just like those paying 500/night for 1000/night rooms, I like to get a 500/night room for 250-300. :smileytongue:claassenam wrote:

Re: The Next Luxury Link VIP Event
Imbues,
Forgive me, I posted that previous post first thing in the morning pre-absolutely necessary coffee and I think I was taking you far too literally regarding the New York hotels. Yes, it would be really really nice to find a decent New York hotel room for 200-300/night these days, if anyone knows one, please let us know! It's really ridiculous there these days. That said, I do think that LL's offerings in New York are quite fair and reasonable for what they offer.
I've given up on an LL event "at the Pierre" anytime this year or early next year. I get to the city several times a year and would love to schedule a trip to coincide with whatever event they decide to finally hold. Just let us know, LL Moderators and higher-ups!

Re: The Next Luxury Link VIP Event
I would like to see luxury link schedule the VIP Event while I am still rated as a VIP! It would be interesting to meet as many of you as possible. I bet there would be a lot of surprised looks our faces when and if we finally meet! Maybe I'm the only one that tends to visualize what someone may look like based upon their writing style and comments.

You're not the only one to imagine fellow contributors! Considering the names we choose, what could we possibly guess about a person's identity? I wonder IF and WHEN they have an event, LL can have test--a sort of who's who[m]??!! Hint--I have my real teeth, I do wear shoes, and I would not be caught dead in "Daisy Duke" shorts!!
The funny part is that when I read a review or comment, I don't necessarily even know the writer's gender.
I don't know about you, but I am easily amused. wink"wherever you go, there you are"
