Re: The Next Luxury Link VIP Event
t2f, you don't have to worry, because it was mentioned that you will always be rated a VIP Contributor. Therefore, no matter what happens you will be invited to the VIP Event.

Re: The Next Luxury Link VIP Event
kyshel, I read a book on a very long flight last yearentitled CRAZY BUSY, written by a medical doctor who specialized in treating Attention Deficit Disorder. The essence of the book was correlating A.D.D traits to similar responses and behaviorsresulting from accelerated busines activities and increased communication links (emails, blackberrys, cellular phones, etc.) In the book he talks about Connected Anonymity.
Are you familiar with the term? It is considered by some medical experts (real or only imagined in their own minds) as being a major factor in contributing to the success of Internet communications, blogs and other voluntary on-line groups. This may very well account to the openness and willingness of the members to communicate in this community. What about the negative consequences of all the VIP Community Members actually meeting face to face at the next VIP Event? With anonymity, we can comment as openly as we wish, we have nothing to lose, no dimensional person to offend, since we are all cyber at this point and everything to gain by being uninhibited.
If we post a comment and no one or very few respond, we just move on. If we were to make a similar comment face to face and we received no response or perhaps a puzzled look or a disapproving glare, we mightfeel adverselyimpacted. Here in this faceless cyber cocktail party, we come and go and our only constraints are the use of profanity and loosely defined terms of conduct monitored by our Moderators.
I am beginning to think the community would take on an entirely different tone, if we were to actually meet, assign faces and physical impressions the future postings and reactions could take on a less open tone.t-2-f

Re: The Next Luxury Link VIP Event
I've never seen a flame war here.
What are they like, my vacation was more luxurious than yours?

Re: The Next Luxury Link VIP Event
imbues, did my original post confuse you? There is no flame war here; at least not between kyshel and myself. I posted an observation and questionbased upon a thesis of a book. Maybe you would enjoy the information in the book, if you can find it. It is CRAZY BUSY.

Re: The Next Luxury Link VIP Event
Well, I'm too dense to know what a flame war was--cute emoticons, but I didn't get the releveance, so I "just moved on" and ignored the post about it. I would have said I'm a bit blonde but that would disturb the "Connection" issue travel2fun cites about being anonymous. (and I already told you I have teeth and wear shoes--you could spot me from across the ballroom!!?) That's such an interesting idea. I'm sure LL would be happy to NOT have to organize and pay for a "group encounter". Perhaps mystery shoud remain just that?
With that said, I think I'll see if my library has a copy and skim thru a few pages."wherever you go, there you are"

Re: The Next Luxury Link VIP Event
travel2fun, no it didn't confuse me. It was an attempt at humor. I haven't seen anything posted that one should get their panties in a twist about. So, I thought it was humorous to think about the possibility of a flame war here. It's not as if we are discussing politics or religion. Luxury travel should be a relatively neutral subject and the very small misunderstandings shouldn't be taken too seriously. IMO. I also wanted to use some emoticons, we need better ones here.
I've been stealing them from a friends discussion board. He has an amazing collection of them.
Thank you for the information about the book. We only see a fraction of a personality on a discussion board. Many people are very different in person than on the net. I know from personal experience that boards usually become cliquish when people meet up. One naturally feels closer to people they have met in person than those they have not. I don't think many on this board would mean to annoy or hurt others with their words. If one is too sensitive than participating on a discussion board is not for them.

Kyshel, this link is for you.

How To Participate In An Internet Flame War
flame war
When an online discussion degenerates into a series of personal attacks against the debaters, rather than a discussion of their opinions and positions. A heated exchange.
You're not dense , it was a joke that failed.

Re: The Next Luxury Link VIP Event
Well, the calendar year is drawing to a close and it would appear the often discussed Luxury Link VIP Event will not be taking place in 2007. I don't know about the remainder of you, but I would hope to be around as a VIP should the event happen in 2008.

Re: The Next Luxury Link VIP Event
Hi travel2fun
Yep, sure looks like the VIP Event's toast for 2007. Too bad. It would have been great to have had a get-together in NYC or somewhere so all the VIPs could have met face-to-face and get to meet the people benind the posts. Well, here's hopingit'll take place sometime in 2008.

Re: The Next Luxury Link VIP Event
Glad you revived this thread Curt--I might never have seen the reply from inmbues regarding flame wars etc--too funny! The funniest part is that I must have my emoticons disabled (I do not understand why they even exist--must be a function of age?--I prefer the written word) But--with that said--I am rolling on the floor laughing (not really....) when I read the word: "smileytongue" Ok--how do I make my toungue smile?? I can roll it but I can't make it smile! Wink (word)
