Nile Cruise?
Am I the only one thinking it's not the best time to plan one?

I think a Nile cruise - or any trip to Egypt for that matter - would be off the table this year.
Reminder for anyone thinking trips cancelled due to the riots / government shut down would be covered by their trip insurance should carefully look at the fine print. This is the same issue that came up last year with the volcano and the Greece protests causing travel disruptions. Trip insurance companies refused to pay for trip delays caused by either of those events once there was the first occurrence and you puchased your trip / trip insurance after that date. The insurance companies said these were now anticipated events and they were not liable.

Same time LY we took our trip to Cairo and Luxor. Sure glad it wasn't this year!!
Instead, we ditched the snow, split before NY got another pounding and headed west...to Hong Kong.
We're happily lounging about at the Langham Hotel and off to Langham Place on Monday. Jet lag is a horror despite business class flatbeds...
hope all is well in your home town or at a fave LL property..."wherever you go, there you are"

The spreading protests and violence is creating problems for tourisits to the country - both for those already there and others booked on upcoming trips. Egypt announced early this AM that the Pyramids have been closed.
Cruise Critic has an article on their site listing tour and cruise changes to Egypt. They are updating it as the situation evolves.

kyshel...sure U are enjoying UR two packages. As for us, no way we would deal with two 'jet lag' poundings back to back over a week or so....no matter how wonderful the experience (including flatbeds in biz). Luxury in travel these days for us, includes longer trips and a lot less 'jet lag' induced stuperous states.
Have fun at the spa!- Ω -

01-29-2011, 01:08 PMBeen trying to follow the situation on Al Jazeera. Concerned about the historical sites and the Cairo Antiquities Museum and lives of innocents. Apparently some looters did get into the Museum, especially the gift shop, but a group of citizens formed a protective ring around it, and drove them out. The military has stepped up and is setting up fire walls to protect the museum.
On the Nile, near the bridge that was taken over yesterday, one could see one of the river tour boats docked. It has been handy to have the latest issue of Traveler mag, with its diagrams of Cairo. Fingers & paws crossed here that events in Baghdad & Afghanistan are not repeated. Good to know there is an awareness among people of the historical riches they have (and future tourist funds) even as they are protesting the last 30 yrs of corruption and repression.
Thanks for the link, shy. We were thinking about a voyage in the region in the fall, have to see how this plays out. Hope Mubarak doesn't continue to bury his head in the sand, and joins his family in Switzerland or wherever they fled in their private planes the other day.

I agree, with all the unrest at the moment, Egypt is not a good destination this year. The news just announced that the US is flying stranded tourists back from Cairo.

All the more reason to register with the US State Department before traveling to a foreign country for LL members in the US. It helps them to assist citizens in times of crisis. It is free. Website registration : http://travel.state.gov/travel/tips/...tion_4789.html
