    Question Noisy hotel neighbors

Help. Anyone have suggestions to handle noisy hotel neighbors? I find when it is adults, and possibly a party going on, I will call the front desk. I just had the case where there were LOUD children. Our first night, they woke at 3:51am and started laughing and carrying on. Our second night, they stayed up until 11:30pm. Again, laughing throwing things, playing games, etc. I was so torn. They sounded so happy yet I need my sleep. I did let it go. I wasn't sure how others would react in this situation. Bottom line is I spent the next day cranky while the others were having a great vacation!

We only had this happen once during a trip - we knocked on their door and told them we had an ealry tour and could they keep the noise down - luckily they were nice and complied. No more noise the rest of the stay. This can be a tricky situation - good luck!

I have zero tolerance for excessive noise in adjacent rooms or hallways of hotels in which I am a guest.

I, have, on more than once occasion been awaken by excessive noise in adjacent spaces.

I don't beat on walls and I don't involve myself in the business or other guests.

I do however, take a very, very adversarial posture with management of these properties and get them involved immediately.

I shy away from 'family friendly' properties.

I am the same way, Mountie. Particularly in hallways. First I open the door, do the "glare and stare" for a brief moment, then say something like "you're very inconsiderate and WAY TOO LOUD" or if it's at night---"we're trying to sleep!" If not, call the front desk/mgr. I'd love to stick my arm out and shake the door tab that says "no moleste".

That's one reason why I am never without good earplugs when traveling! If you get them inserted correctly, they work very well. I've learned over the years from sleeping with "the snoring machine".

On occasion I have involved the front desk with a satisfactory outcome.

I usually call the front desk for two reasons:

    1) To avoid a confrontation with he noisy neighbors.

    2) One more than one occasion, we have had our room upgraded or been given a credit to compensate for the inconvenience.

We always carry our Marpac Marsona TSCI-330 Sound Machine whenever we travel. It is small and easy to operate 120/240v. It produces the same white sounds we have at home in our bedroom, so the background sounds for sleeping are consistent and we seldom notice other noise.

On the rare occasions when we have been disturbed by adjacent room or hallway noise at an unreasonable hour, we contact the front desk for a solution.

If we're going to continue to stay at the property, then we expect to be moved to another more suitable location and we usually receive an adjustment for the night we have been inconvenienced.

Thanks all. This is such a touchy situation. I really cannot tolerate drunken adults or parties. I really thought the kids would FINALLY go to sleep. I did tell the front desk in the morning and they were surprised kids were up so late at night. I think next time, I will contact management and not throw my lacrosse ball against the wall the next morning!
