I am taking my first trip to Paris this August. My eyes are glazing over looking at hotel sites! At this point, I'm turning to the most experienced helpful travelers around - the LL community members.
What recommendationsdo you have for a hotel near the Eiffel tower. Aview of the Eiffel Tower from the room would be a plus, but not mandatory. I appreciate any suggestions members may have.
shygirl724....the Hotel Regina is not my favorite place to stay in Paris, but it can be a great bargain (if you are prepared to approach the front desk and speak with the Manager or Assistant Manager and "insist" on one of the recently renovated rooms on the top floor [with strong binoculars on a clear day, you can gaze across the Tulleries and see theTour de Eiffel in the distance....LL has a great auction currently running on this property:

....what makes it special (if not spectacular), is the fact you can walk to so much of what make Paris the city we dream of visiting.
omegaet, I read most of the postings in the thread you linked. Why would you suggest this hotel to shygirl724?
It sounds like most people who posted thought the placewas a dump.
I know that area of Paris fairly well and I would agree thegeneral location makes it easy to get around by foot and Metro, but why this hotel?

shygirl724 and t-2-f, the Hotel Regina has undergone a huge renovation over the past few years, which has gone a long ways in dealing with some of the "worn" and "dated" qualities mentioned in the earlier postings.
There's no secret in dealing with an older hotel, such as this one....simply insist on a newly renovated room in advance of arrival. If management cannot make that guarantee, then don't book the property.
I only make the suggestion to consider this hotel, since the auction package on LL is reasonable. Thisarea of Paris is loaded with alternative properties.....many of which are nicer and of course, much more expensive...you can spend your money on a fancy room or suite or you can spend it in nice restaurants and activities...your money - your choices!

We live in Paris part of the year and we recently went by the Regina Hotel. The hotel looks fine. A couple of years ago, while the renovation was ongoing, we booked our friends into that hotel and they were delighted. They had one of the newly renovated rooms on the top floor with a terrific view of the Louvre, the Tuilleries and the Eiffel Tower. The Hotel Regina has come a long way with their renovations so, I think you are safe to book there. The location of this hotel is terrific and the LL package is quite reasonable, especially when you consider breakfast and 1 dinner thrown in, as well as a set of Louvre tickets. I can recommend the Regina without reservation. Of course, there is always the Ritz... which is just a stone throw away. All kidding aside, if you want to taste reall luxury, reserve a table for two for lunch at the Ritz at their 2-Michelin star Restaurant the Espadon. This will set you back 80 Euros per person (fixed price menu) plus wine, but it is well worth it. The Ritz service will make you feel like a Million bucks. Let that experience be the Highlight of your trip.
