02-03-2007, 08:06 AMQuestion For Moderators
I am new to this community and I am finding it difficult to follow some of the posting information in the threads. It seems like some of the posted information is veryremoved from the MESSAGE SUBJECT. Since I am new, please do not take this as a complaint against anyone in the community or to those who monitor the community. I actually find the information helpful. However, being new, it is difficult to follow. I guess my question is - How canIget some help in following the patterns. I have used the SEARCHfunction, but I still seem to get lost. This is common in the longer threads. Any thoughts?

Re: Question For Moderators
Mountie,
I'm afraid such is the nature of a message board. These are online conversations between people and even though a subject is posted sometimes in the course of the conversation people get onto other topics, related or unrelated. Hopefully the advanced search can help you as you can search for keywords within the body of the threads, not just in the subject line. This is a pretty new board and the main headings are still being worked out. Also, even though there are many different sub categories a lot of people tend to post under the "General Discussion" category. I'm sure it will all be worked out as it goes, but you just can't make people stick to the prime subject in every thread.
Tictoc, if you haven't found anything of value why do you continue to visit? I agree the "bribe" as it were for posters to become VIPs and receive money towards a trip can cause people to spend more time here than they otherwise would. It's pretty brilliant on the part of the LL marketing team as they've managed to build this board fairly quickly. However, I've yet to see a post that's not travel or "LuxeLife" related.....and people just like to share their experiences. What's wrong with that?

Re: Question For Moderators
Hi classernam
You have very valid points. There are people on this board who are very well traveled and we can benefit by reading about these experiences, thanks to the LL forum. Its true that we dont always stay on topic, but that is because like it or not, we are human and with time one does develop friendships. Those of us who take the time almost every day to look in if there is anything new (whether it be some information given on travel or someone in need of help with a destination), do it because we enjoy the conversation and like any good conversation, it can go off on a tangent at times.
Mountie, please dont give up! Weve all been where you are and it can be daunting when you cant find the info you are looking for; but, if you have any questions just ask and we will answer.
And for those who think that the VIPs and regular contributors are here only because of the 500$, they should stop judging and participate. Only then will you notice that you really have to enjoy being there to keep up.

Two2go,
I definitely agree with your last statement. I might not have begun posting if it weren't for the added incentive, but once I began I found a lot of value and fun in it. I spend a lot of time planning travel, and I've found this to be both an excellent resource and a great sounding board for ideas. Plus, it's fun to share past travel experiences with people who who are interested! And, yes, it is rather time consuming but a very rewarding new "hobby".

mountie, I have been observing this community since mid November and I finally decided to join today and share my thoughts. I think several members continue to display extreme selfishness in there obsessive quest to receive the VIP ranking and the $500 certificate. The ponderous postings and pontification by the few are so obviously intended for nothing more than their own personal gains (status and money). It is easy to see why you and other have difficulty negotiating these wandering and aimlessthreads.
tictoc & mountie....nice to have both of you participating in this community.
tictoc....we're stilloperating under first amendment rights here. We do have some prolific "posters" (guilty as charged) and wehave others who only visit and apparently neverpost. Either way works in this community. Perhaps you will become a frequent visitor and frequent "poster" as well. Certainly, travel must be of interest or you would not have been observing since last November. As such, you must have interesting contributions you can add! If you like, you can see me a private message.
mountie....the postings do tend to wander from time to time from the initial Subject. Right now, we're not bound by many rules, so "wandering" is still allowed. Most of us utilize the private message feature (we have already traded messages), so if you are interested in sticking to the Subject, you can try to communicate directly and possibly avoid some confusion when the "wanderings" begin.
Regards...

LL_Moderators, Now that I have been observing and checking these auctions, I keep seeing the same location come up week after week and yet they still have the red oval with NEW beside the listing. What does NEW mean? It seems like they are the same terms offered in a previous auction, so I don't understand the use of the red oval with NEW inside? Can you explain? Thank you.

Re: Question For Moderators
Mountie, the use of NEW, as you have questioned it, appears more of a marketing tool than actually representing a totally new property.

t-2-f, I think you are right. I've been checking luxury link since last December, so I don't a lot of history with the way they operate. Now, it looks like they continue to put up the same hotels week after week and their use of NEW just means it is a new offering, not a new hotel on their web site. I guess it is just like so many other things that are sold as "NEW" and "IMPROVED."

Re: Question For Moderators
mountie....in reality, some of the "NEW" destinations are actually "OLD" destinations, which are being reintroduced at "NEW" destinations. Think about it, if you are a new visitor to LL and youhave only seen a few destinations (and you have no extended history with the site), then when LL posts "NEW" on one of their auctions.......well, in that sense, it is "NEW" to the new or relatively "NEW" visitor to the site! Makes sense doesn't it?
