Rating?

Can someone who has been here a while explain what this rating thing is about? Does it have something to do with get elevated to the next ranking level? I have looked all over the Home Page and I can't find any details. Thank you!

Hi Mountie!

I'm new here too and also a bit confused about this rating thing...no other boards I have seen have ratings! Is is supposed to be about whether a post is helpful or not? What about posts when people just say thank you or something?

mountie...even to those of us who have been in this community for some time, the "purpose" of the numerical rating system remains something of a mystery. The Moderators tend to feed out information from time to time, so the rating system may be addressed in the not-to-distant future. In the mean time, use it or ignore it....but keep participating with your posts!

Those of you that have received the VIP Contributor ranking, do you think the way other readers have rated your information has anything to do with the number of ratings or the level of ratings given to you?

I think that it may well be one step closer to be considered a VIP Contributor. Surely they may need to choose the VIP in the future according to the ratings because with time the LL Community will be larger, and it will be moredifficult to choose. They will have to start checking the amount of posts, the quality of posts, and the amount of ratings.

mountie....the information you can receive and share with others in this forum is probably worth more than the VIP ranking or even the $500 certificate (both of which are appreciated). Our owninterests have been heightened by the insights we have learned from other members who have visited destination which are of interest.

LL_Editor and ticktoc, if you are still around, I guess ratings do mean something [at least in the eyes of the LL satff]. For me, I think when some one has something of interest to write, I like to take the time to acknowledge their efforts, whether I agree or not. Thank you.
