03-03-2007, 12:11 PMRecommendation for Venice hotel
Reaching out to the LL community for recommendations on Venice hotels. We need 3 nights at the end of July, following a 14 day cruise (Istanbul to Venice). I see many packages on LL - have any of you bought a package? what was your experience?

Re: Recommendation for Venice hotel
Hi there,
I haven't stayed at the LL properties, but had an excellent stay at the Westin Europa and Regina. It is in a great location with beautiful views of the Basilica della Salute. It is a smaller hotel with lovely old rooms and service. That said, I have heard excellent things about both the Hotel Danieli and the Bauer Il Palazzo, both offered on LL. I've always had great experiences with the LL properties, so you probably can't go wrong.

Re: Recommendation for Venice hotel
Hi again Stark,
You probably want to check out tripadvisor.com's hotel reviews before booking. Although each review should be taken for what it is, a bunch of negative or a bunch of positive reviews can give you a good idea of what to expect. I forget how quickly hotels can get dated! Apparently the lovely Westin where I stayed on part of my honeymoon 5 years ago is now completely dated and ready for a makeover. The Hotel Danieli is ranked rather low on their list but the recent reviews are raves, not to mention this has been a "world's best" for years. The Bauer Il Palazzo is getting mixed reviews but sounds like it has the potential to be excellent; hopefully some others can give some firsthand recommendations...

Thank you, Claassenam. Very good advice. I've checked Trip Advisor many times, especially for Mexican resorts. When I first started looking at Venice hotels I consulted Trip Advisor and was surprised to discover many of the properties I heard about didn't get such great reviews. Which is why I'm turning to the LL community, hoping there are recent experiences in Venice I can learn from.

Hi Starklk. When in Venice we stay at the Gritti Palace Hotel which is on the grand canal. It is an exceptional property with stunning rooms and juliette balconies opening up to the Grand Canal. We had a exquisite Murano chandelier over our bed, silk damask padded walls and a luxurious bathroom which was the size of our bedroom! It's a perfect location with a lovely terrace restaurant on the grand canal. We have been to the Danelli Hotel for lunch. They have a beautiful rooftop outdoor restaurant overlooking the grand canal and would recommend this for a special dining experience. This hotel also has an excellent reputation and looked well maintained. However, I do not know anyone who has stayed there.

Re: Recommendation for Venice hotel
Hi starlk,
Venice was wonderful, the first time we stayed at the LL property Hotel Luna Baglione right behind San Marcus Square. Unfortunately, that property has since then dropped out of LL. The hotel was wonderful, an old palace, excellent breakfasts and right by the San Marcus boat stop. The second time we used Hotel Concordia (through www.Venere.com - by the way an excellent site which lets you check out photos, locations and rating), at the same boat stop. Our room was newly appointed with a separate sitting room and a brand new modern bathroom. We thought the 150 Euros were a steal for that room overlooking San Marcus Square, and everything was within walking distance. Right around the corner from the Luna Baglione Hotel is a large book store which offers free internet use just for the asking.

Re: Recommendation for Venice hotel
Hi starklk,
I came across this post by obrienkf. He is suggsting an excellentalternative to a hotel. I thought I repost the post for you. Here it goes:
"If you are having trouble finding a place to stay in Venice, or even just deciding, I have stayed many times at a Bed and Breakfast, well run, by resident American expats. They are well appointed rooms, large, in a private palazzo, with a nice private garden, just a stroll from the Grand Canal. Its about 170 euro a night, with a nice continental breakfast included. I like it because it has big rooms, new bathrooms, and air conditioning, its centrally located, and its not a hotel, and i have great conversations with the owners about 'life in Venice as an ex-pat'. Its called the Corte 1321, at www.corte1321.com
and you can email them at [email protected]
They are helpful, they don't live on site, so you don't feel like its a B&B, it really is more a small hotel, there are four very nice rooms, its not overcrowded, and I have always felt like I am staying at a nice big home, not in a small hotel room. And they let guests use their internet free, which is very kind, and helps travellers stay in touch with home, without searching for an internet cafe, or waiting in a queue for limited service internet access. Its a 5 minute walk to the Rialto, on the 'other side' of San Marco, and a 4 minute walk from the nearest boat stop. I like it. Its low key and very reliable. Well run, 'english spoken here'. "

Re: Recommendation for Venice hotel
Hi Starkik,
Just here to tell you that we bought a LL package for Venice last July, and the hotel is still featured on the auction section. Ca Pisani is a beautiful art deco design boutique hotel. The package & accommodations were great. Many people who visit Venice look for a property on a canal, this one is not situated on a canal. We loved this hotel, and if we were to return we would definitely go back to Ca Pisani.

We stayed at the Ca'Pisani hotel last year and are going back this year in July. We are combining a LL package at the Posta Hotel in Reggio Emilia with the LL package at this hotel. The hotel is a few minutes from the Academia vaporetto stop. It is in the Dorsodora area of the city. The train station is a few vaporetto stops from the hotel and the airport is a little longer ride from where you get on at the vaporetto stop. We had a studioroom which is one of the rooms offered in the package this year. The hotel is a small boutique hotel with a very good restaurant. In the summer, they have tables outside where you can eat while watching the locals walking around. The breakfast was also quite nice. The hotel is three stories with an elevator. The decor is modern. Our room was two stories. You put your little fish key at the entrance to buzz yourself into your room. It then slid into a slot to turn the lights on and start the airconditioning. You walked down a little hallway and made a left turn into the living room area. The bathroom was off to the right. The livingroom was small (but large by European standards)with two chairs, a coffee table, a desk and a tv. The bathroom was very large with a jacuzzi tub, large sink area and other essentials. You walked up a flight of steps to the bedroom which hada timbered ceiling, a very large closet and another tv. The bed was very comfortable with good linens. Both rooms had windows which opened. The windows had blinds which worked by a remote control. The hotel has internet access for the guests. We really enjoyed the hotel and can't wait to go back.AnATM machine is one minutefrom the hotel. There are numerous restaurants in the area as is one of the best gelatto shops in Venice. The Guggenheim Museum is about a ten minute stroll. There also arelittle shops in the area and the locals we encountered were very nice.
