Re: Sand Fleas and No see-ums
Hi jettravel,
I'm afraid your question may get lost under this topic, but I'll give it a shot. I've stayed a the Ritz Carlton 3 times, just for a night each time on the way to/from the BVIs. It's a very nice property. The rooms, the service, the food - all wonderful. The beach is somewhat small, not like the long sweeping beaches in the Riviera Maya for example. They do offer a variety of water sports, and it's also very close to the Red Hook ferry to St. John. So it might be worthwhile to do that trip one day. The pool is very nice, and seemed a decent size for the hotel. But around February vacation everything may be more crowded. We didn't see many children. It appeared to be mainly adult couples, but our trips were in March and November. For a 4-day trip it sounds like a good option.

I Love Disney! thank you Disneygal
As far as Red Hook, would my teenage girls ages 15 & 17 be interested in shopping there?

Re: Sand Fleas and No see-ums
Hi jettravel, There were a few shops at Red Hook but not many. The best shopping is really in Charlotte Amalie. It is one of the best shopping destinations in the Caribbean! Not very convenient to the Ritz, it's at least a half hour drive. But you could combine a shopping excursion with lunch or dinner in that area. Lots of cruise ship passengers, and a real tourist destination, but it is fun for shopping. There's another shopping area right next to the cruise docks, called Havensight. You can hit that one also if you're looking for more.

bonniejoy03, what about bugs, fleas, ticks, etc., while traveling in Guatemala?

Haven't been to the Pacific beach side yet so will tell you when I return. As for the Peten area and Antigua, we had no bug problems at all. (unlike Costa Rica with the HUGE scary looking but neat bugs.) No no-seeums or bitties in the areas of Guatemala that we visited. Also, much has to do with the rain. In the dry season, it seems like you don't see as many as the rainy season.

bonniejoy03, now that you made another trip to Guatemala, did you have any problems with bugs or any other pests, especially since you visited the beach?

Re: Sand Fleas and No see-ums
Hi J. Great question.....NO bitty bugs!!! I had my arsenal of defense with me and didn't use one drop. Much of it is due to rain and the beach area was quite dry. Thank goodness!! The beach was so lovely/different. Black sand beaches, very wide beaches and No One around! Really cool! The waves were quite big and didn't go swimming. (totally opposite of Anguilla!) I really enjoyed it. Most of the tourists are the Guatemalans on the weekends. It is deserted during the week. My type of holiday!
