Skywalk, Grand Canyon
Is anyone brave enough to do this? I'm a little iffy, but I'm sure it's a great view! The Grand Canyon Skywalk just opened at Grand Canyon West in Arizona. The open-air skywalk, a little footpath, extends 70 feet out from the rim of the canyon, and is 4,000 feet above the bottom of the canyon:

(If anyone can tell me how to post photos using Firefox, I'd really appreciate it - it would make this post quite a bit more dramatic!)

I read about this in the paper this morning. It looks fabulous, and I'd love to see it, but when I read about the wind whistling by and people grabbing the handrails, not to mention the sound of the glass creaking...well, I don't know.

Hi Claassenam
I was having a conversation with my husband about this last night over supper. I was trying to explain to him that it is a large U sticking out of the Grand Canyon. Apparently the skywalk is made of 3 inch glass so that you can see beneath very clearly. What a thrill that would be for only $25.00 US. I've should mention that they showed the opening of the skywalk on TV, but there was not one person visible on it. I wish I could help you on how to post that picture, maybe you could ask Curtiejoe (he is always posting pictures).

Re: Skywalk, Grand Canyon
I have been waiting for this project to be completed. Not that I will ever be able to walk the walk--I get severe vertigo--but what a concept!!
My step kids have never been anywhere in the US but WV and FL, so I can't wait to get them out west.
They ate up Costa Rica and Dom Republic. If they'd just drop soccer long enuff to go with us (their dad is an airline capt) they would have the world at their fingertips...
I'm sure they'd enjoy the new addition to the sights there."wherever you go, there you are"

Great photo! Thank you for posting it. I saw this same photo in my newspaper, but it was in black and white which really doesn't do it justice. In color, the effect is amazing.

What a great picture of some very brave people! While we have been to both the north and south rims of the Grand Canyon several times and will no doubt go again, I'll have to marshall my nerve to walk out on that! Cheers...Marolyn

O - You are a genius at the computer! This looks really exciting and frightening at the same time. I suppose you would need to be adventurous enough to hot air balloon or skydive...not for me. We stayed at Bright Angel cabins on the rim of the Grand Canyon at Bright Angel Pass - that was spectactular enough! The cabins were very clean, neat and comfortable. It was wonderful in the evening when only those staying in the park remained. It felt like you had the entire canyon on your own. Early morning hikes were the best! Few others wereout in the morning. One morning it was snowing and the ranch hand guides were preparing a new crop of adventursome donkey riding tourists through the paces. All the tourists were outfitted in yellow ponchos, forming a circle around the REAL cowboys explaining their trip. I'll always recall the cowboys instructions to know your guide (Drawl)
" Do not wait until 50 yards down the trail to tell your guide that you just lost the cap to your chapstick!"
Can you imagine what the true cowboy tourguides must endure? Happy trails ...Funtimes

Don't feel bad. I've jumped out of a plane at 13,000 feet and I'm still not sure I want to do the Skywalk.
