Sliding Airplane Seat to Speed Up the Boarding Process
What's next?
Airlines keep trying to figure out new ways to speed up the boarding process, saving money. The less time airlines spend boarding passengers, the more revenue-generating flights they can squeeze into a day.
"Now a Denver-based airline interior designer has a new idea to cut the load time: An aisle seat that slides away from the aisle and ends up on top of the middle seat, expanding the aisle space from 19 inches to 43 inches. So, then after boarding on each row is completed, the aisle seat is slid back into position. With a wider aisle, Malon Labe Designs said its Slider Seat can cut loading time in half."
However, I don't think I'd like these seats. They don't have much padding and don't look comfortable to me. I guess they'd be used on short haul flights?

3 hours is way too long for my hiney to sit in one of those! My idea of short haul is under 2 hours. I'm with you that they don't even appear to be comfy.
I don't see any advantage--lots of potential problems!
You can only board the window seats, then someone has to move the aisle seat OFF the middle seat to sit there, then the next person has to wait until the middle is in place to sit at the aisle. Safety is a huge issue here, too. How secure do you feel when another pax puts your seat in lock position? Aside from the obvious, what advantage is there to make everyone who has an aisle seat wait to board. What about overhead bin space? It will be gone in no time. That won't sit well with loyal legacy members. It MIGHT work with LCCs but they won't pay the extra to install them."wherever you go, there you are"
