Bonniejoy - yes, the flights are LOOOng....but well worth it. We're flying LAX - SFO - SGN with a stop in Hong Kong, about 16 hours from SFO to SGN. We were debating between Bali, Thailand and Vietnam but the airfare to Vietnam was almost half the price - at the time - of the airfare to Singapore (for Bali) or Bangkok. That was what sealed the deal on the trip to Vietnam/Cambodia! We fly United exclusively and upgrade on international flights to business class so although it's not quite up to snuff with Singapore or Thai's in-flight service and amenities it's a relatively pleasant flight (usually on the top deck which is nice and quiet!) That said, i'd give some time your first day to relax and get over jet lag. Enjoy your trip planning!

Hi Claassenam. Still trying to convice my husband the flight time will be worth it. Its quite difficult to leave Central America and the Caribbean with the flights being so easy. We are also looking into South America and so far he seems supportive (funny that the flight time is ALMOST the same as flying to Asia from the West Coast!). I really haven't checked the Vietnam flight schedules, I was really looking at Thailand. I will check Vietnam. Unfortunately we wouldn't have enought points for an upgrade. (I tend to use the points for Anguilla and Virgin Gorda!!!) I have heard that economy class on some of the Asian airlines isn't so bad.
