Any of the Lounge Members actually fly Spirit Airlines?

Well, since we have a 'Love/Hate" relationship with Spirit Airlines and we use the carrier to get to Central America....we have actually designated them as our airline of choice for the annual $200 Platinum card credit. Most of their 'fees' are absorbed by AMEX. So, we 'Love' the ease of flying our of FLL into our Central American destinations, but we 'Hate" the fees, but we "Love" the fact the Platinum card picks them up!

• $200 airline fee credit annually, to “cover incidental fees with your favorite airline. ” Each year, you pick an airline like American,Delta and Spirit. Then, whenever you charge an airline fee from them onto the Platinum card like checked baggage fees, overweight fees, ticket booking/change fees, in-flight food, it will be refunded to you.

I checked into the Spirit Airline routes and found that they actually fly
Ft. Lauderdale to Munich, Germany. However, since I try to use up my Frequent Flier
Miles, whenever I can, American Airlines and United Airlines are still my airlines of choice.
From what I could see, prices seemed in line with other big carriers.

I just read an article that Spirit is increasing their carry on fees. Could be at high as $100, if the carry on is declared at the gate. I think Spirit should focus their advertising on free air fares, just pay for the extras.

If they do that then in theory you could fly really, really cheap if you take no luggage - just you and the clothes on your back

Well, nobody is perfect. Spirit Airlines just seems to remind the flying public of that idea daily.

There is also a funny video making the rounds saying the president of Spirit Air started the new carry on fee so folks won't put things in the overhead bin and he can then use the overhead bins as new 1st class sleeping pods. I can't remember the link but the video was very funny
