Sri Lanka
I just got luxury Links newsletter and one of the resorts in it was The Fortress in Sri Lanka. WOW! From what I could see and what I read about it, it sounds absolutely perfect. I tried to get on to their website but whenI clicked on to "accommodations" to check out the different room/suite categories butI could not get on to it. I wondered if anyone could tell me about the different rooms. I like to have a suite with lots of outdoor space e.g. large balcony or terrace. Do any of the balconies or terraces have sunloungers on them. I would love to hear more aboutthis wonderful place from anyone who has stayed there already. Thanks in advance.

Re: Sri Lanka
I just thought I would "top" this thread in case anyone has visited this brand new hotel.
I'd be curious to hear any feedback about the Fortress and Sri Lanka in general.

Hi,
I have just come back from eight nights at The Fortress. I have posted a review on tripadvisor.com:
http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserR...ess-Galle.html
Do not hesitate in going to this place, it is wonderful. I don't think that LL offers you the best price for this hotel though. I got an excellent deal directly through the hotel as they are offering the fortress rooms at $210 plus service and VAT, and they are also doubling your nights' stay for free (ie we paid only four nights but stayed eight). They will generally upgrade you to at least one room better if available, so book a fortress room and ask them for an upgrade. In any case, there is no difference in Fortress, Beach and Ocean rooms apart from the view. Admittedly either beach or ocean is preferrable. As for the loft, we got upgraded to one after two nights, and to be honest, i preferred the ocean room we were in prior. The loft has two floors, and you really only spend your time in the bedroom. Also, you lose the cool bathtub jacuzzi with changing colour lights with the loft (only a shower and single sink unit in the bathroom in the loft in favour of the indoor plunge pool downstairs)......
If anyone has any questions on The Fortress you can email me on
(personal content edited)
I'd be happy to share my experiences.

Re: Sri Lanka
Thank you SOOO much for posting this...Since finding out about the reduced rates and the 2-for-1 nights offer, we're seriously considering going to Sri Lanka this fall.
A few more questions, if you don't mind:
Did you arrange excursions thru the hotel or on your own?
What were the prices like for food/drinks at the hotel? I'm always wary of getting a great deal on a lux hotel but then paying $25 for a beer...
Thanks again

It's also hard to beat the Galle Face Hotel for old colonial character. Even if you don't stay there it's a great place for a sundowner when you're in Colombo. I had a great time there a few years back:
