TASTE OF THE NATION . . . GREAT EVENT FOR FOODIES!
The annual Taste of the Nation is now in full swing in cities across the U.S. Taste of the Nation is a fundraiser put on by Share our Strength, an organization dedicated to feeding the hungry. The event features the best restaurants, wineries and breweries in the area where it's hosted. Diners pay one price to get in and get to sample the very best cuisine and drink. The cost of admission varies from city to city but it's generally around $75 per person. All of the food and beverages are donated by the providers and all of the proceeds go to local, state and national food banks. Some of your ticket price is a tax writeoff. Most of the dinners are in large hotels or convention centers and diners go from one station to the next loading up on delicious food.
I look forward to this event every year. I attended my first Taste of the Nation in Santa Barbara around 1988. It was a sit-down dinner catered by five or six of the top restaurants in the city, with each chef responsible for one course. The second event I attended was the following year in Sun River, Idaho. My wife and I drove up from Ogden, Utah, and we stayed in the hotel where the event was being hosted. She was totally surprised. We attended the Seattle event all five years that we lived in Washington and we're going to our ninth consecutive Taste of the Nation in Portland on Monday. The food and wine are always spectacular!
During the dinner, many of the locations have silent auctions, raffles, and other ways to buy or win dinners, hotel stays, golf trips, cookbooks, wine, etc. I'm curious if anyone else has attended this event and if so, where. For more information and to buy tickets, go to www.tasteofthenation.com or www.shareourstrength.org.
No, I have no affiliation with Share Our Strength, but it's such a fun event for such a great cause that I really wanted to share this with the Luxury Link community.

thanks, thepiranha, for the info on Taste of the Nation. I checked out the website and especially the Napa date... if someone is interested in tasting some great wines and foods - that's the one to go to. There are some amazing restaurants and wineries listed for that program. It would be perfect to do that with a couple nights in Napa - what a great weekend!

CMD, I'd love to go to the Napa event. The NYC, Chicago and San Francisco events are probably amazing as well. All of the Taste of the Nation events have the very best restaurants in the area represented, the food is always outstanding and the wine flows freely. I'm a cook (not professionally) and I really appreciate the dinners. Chefs go all out and sometimes try to outdo each other to bring great dishes to the event. Check it out if you can.

Re: TASTE OF THE NATION . . . GREAT EVENT FOR FOODIES!
Well, my wife and I attended the Taste of the Nation in Portland and it was fantastic. All of the best restaurants in the city were represented and served some of their favorite dishes. Beer and wine flowed freely and we had a great time. The best thing about the event is that all of the proceeds go to feed people who can't afford to feed themselves. Anybody interested in the event should go to www.tasteofthenation.org and see if there is an event in their city. Enjoy yourself while helping others!
