Tennis get aways
We enjoy playing tennis on vacation. I would appreciate any posts as to some places that you would recommend. We enjoy warm climates. We also like smaller properties and not too touristy. Right now, we enjoy playing in Anguilla, Virgin Gorda, Arizona, and Costa Rica. Any other ideas or suggestions to incorporate tennis with a great get away?

Hi Bonniejoy:
Tennis is always a highlight on our trips too. I've played a lot of tennis every time I'm in Florida for some reason. The two resorts that come to mind are The Hyatt Grand Cypress in Orlando, and Sadlebrook in Tampa. Both have many courts and many great players to compete against. These resorts of course are geared toward golf and tennis but the locations of both have many sights and activities other that tennis near by.

Hi enewseven: Thanks for the ideas. We have family in the Orlando area so that might be one to consider. Any other suggestions for properties that might be smaller in the Florida area? Our goal would be to go on a wonderful vacation and get to play some tennis also. For example, some of the properties that we have stayed have tennis courts (Punta Islita, Young Island, Peter Island.) We tend to enjoy the early morning play before our day begins. Also, it seems that there are other guests who share our interests. Thanks!

A favorite tennis experience for us is at the Broadmoor in Colorado Springs. The resort has a complete sports complex, even Olympic training venues, that is fabulous. The Broadmoor offers one of the few tennis courts with a view. The scenery is breath taking, especially the first few days at that altitude. In spring and summer it is dry and cool, far different from some other properties. Cheers...Marolyn

We love tennis trips! Can recommend Villa Vera in Acapulco. Gorgeous property, formerly thefavorite of movie stars and politicians. etc.. It's in the foothills about a mile from the beach. I think it's now owned by a European company ... Regina Resorts, or some such.
Room 24 The Elizabeth Taylor - private pool and very nearby the 2 beautiful red clay tennis courts. There's also a spa there. Acapulco can be wild, but this is an elegant retreat and the tennis is great.
Ball boys!
St. Regis Dana Point CA (just south of Laguna Beach) is beautiful - you get tennis privileges at the
club across the street - they have courts like the Australian Open (forget what they are called) - they are hard courts but kind of springy?
Inn At Rancho Santa Fe in Rancho Santa Fe, CA near Del Mar racetrack, great area. 4 hard courts.
Two Bunch Palms in Desert Hot Springs - its mainly a fancy spa but they have two hard courts and they're very well maintained.
Have fun!

Thank you all for your great ideas. I am going to research some of the properties. I think they all sound interesting. I guess we will have to narrow our trip as to if we want a "tennis" resort or just tennis courts. In the past, we just went to places with tennis courts. A tennis holiday might be a nice idea. Thank you all.
