I'm at MSP now & just went thru the TSA Pre-Check - my 3rd time experiencing it - love it! No line, no taking out my zip lock bag of liquids or my laptop & no taking off my shoes.

Was flying home from LA Thursday morning.......LONG security lines and was beginning to wonder about my timing for the flight. I had totally forgotten about TSA PreCheck. Then as the TSA agent scanned my boarding pass, he motioned me to a separate line with NO ONE in the security line! Awesome! Off I went, as I heard the lady behind me keep telling the TSA agent she wanted to go in that short line too........priceless.

It's just another government scam to raise money. I just hate the though of having to pay an extra $100.00 to the TSA or any government entity.

I have time, I'll stand in lines with the others.

TSA PreCheck costs nothing. I was added to the program by Delta, I guess as one of its frequent flyers. I paid no fees for it.

OTOH, Global Entry does require a fee. Is that right kyshel?

mountie, AA invited me into the TSA PreCheck at no fee. I don't know why I was added.

I do fly AA more than others carriers, but I'm not a frequently flier, in the sense that I spend every week on flights.

GE is $100 for 5 years. You get a GE card, plus sticker on your passport from the CBP.
Trusted Traveler Precheck is free bt you have to register your info w/TSA to be approved.
If you have GE, you use that number on ticketing box for "Trusted Traveler" to gain entry to Precheck lanes. Be certain that you have activated your GE (GOES) account card on receipt.

You can spend hours coming and going for an international trip--as well as removing shoes, toiletries, laptops, belts etc for the security lane PLUS standing in line with up to 400 other pax to get thru immigration on re-entry to the US. To save that much time (as well as zipping thru customs if you have nothing to declare) for $20 a year it's a no-brainer for me. I have at least 5 entries to US per year. Connections can easily missed while you're having an anxiety attack waiting for immigration officers to wave you to their booths. Been ages since I got paid minimum wage for my time!
You can go thru several US airlines for Precheck--see homepage for Transportation Security Administration

GE is worth the $ for me - I hate standing in lines waiting to get checked and if I can go through without taking off shoes, etc. it is totally worth it!
I just wish it could be used when arriving and departing from other countries - when we went to CR in March it was 2 hours going through customs on arrival - horrible experience. I hope we do not go through that again when we go in November.

GE is specifically for returning TO the US. The benefit for Precheck is that IF you have GE, you are already pre-cleared., even tho there is NO guarantee you can zip thru TSA security.
We have no control over any entry procedures in another country. Bear in mind that immigration and customs are different--one is passport control and the other is for goods carried from country to country.

That last trip we took to CR back in March was actually the 1st time we ever had such a horrible experience going into a Latin American country - there were just so many flights arriving at the same time and the customs guys were so slow.

Usually it is the opposite - when leaving to go back to the USA we have experienced long lines - some of the Latin American countries have some weird security procedures to go through before passing through to get your flight back home - some funny and some annoying!
