A display of 100 watercolors and sketches by Hermann Hesse (1877-1962), who received the Nobel Prize for literature in 1946. Hesse's palette reflects the luminosity of Expressionismn. "My watercolors are a sort of poems or dreams; they carry only a distant memeory of reality, transforming it according to personal feelings and needs", Hesse said in a 1919 letter. www.leopoldmuseum.org
