Washington DC for less than $500
The Melrose Hotel, Washington D.C.
his 3-night midweek package for 2 includes:3 nights in a spacious One-Bedroom Suite with separate bedroom and living/dining areasBottle of wine in your suite upon arrivalFull American buffet breakfast each morning3-course dinner for two at The Library Bar on the evening of your choiceComplimentary access to the Fitness CenterTaxes & service chargesThis new property is a fantastic deal! Even if it's strange.
Usually hotels in Washington DC are discounted on weekends when the houses are not in session. It's in a great neighborhood between Georgetown and the Foggy Bottom, with lots of restaurants, shops and galleries. It's easy to take a bus or the metro down to the museums too.
Sometimes the deals are just amazing here.

Re: Washington DC for less than $500
Hi Imbues. Thanks for the info. I did a post under Destinations Section, United States, on Washington DC and I haven't heard from anyone. Are you familiar with the DC area? We have visited a few times but don't know much. We will be staying at the Fairmont in June. (it is also a great price on the A La Carte Section of the property search.) Do you know the hotel and/or area? I heard there is a harbour close by with neat restaurants? Also, I believe Georgetown is close by. Ideas?

Re: Washington DC for less than $500
Hi Bonniejoy,
It's been a few years since I've been to DC. None of the restaurants we went to were memorable, but there are many to choose from in Georgetown. It's nothing like NYC (all NYers compare all cities to NY), but it has it's own charm. First, I think it's a good idea to get a map of DC and study it a bit. The layout of DC is kind of interesting, it is a designed city and not one that just developed. The streets run horizontal, vertical and diagonal, then there are circles that can make a person dizzy just driving through.
Yes, Georgetown is along the Potomac river and so are many of the sites, the river cruise at night is beautiful. If your going to be there 4 or 5 days you might as well do all the tourist activities, They have a zoo I haven't been to, but then I have the Bronx zoo about a hour away. The museums were free last time I went which is fantastic in my book. I also enjoyed doing Washington's Estate tour. Bring comfortable shoes and sneakers, there's a lot of walking.
If I can think of anything else I'll post later. I'm thinking about going this year and I might bid on this package. I'm indecisive right now...There are a few packages I'm considering for the summer and fall.

Re: Washington DC for less than $500
Hi Imbues. Sorry...I posted to you under Destinations Section! Thanks for the update. If you are looking at DC properties, also look at the A La Carte Section (other than just auctions or best buys). We are only going for one night so didn't need a whole package. We live about 2.5 hours away so we are just making it a quick get away. Thanks for your help. I am interested in this area called Washington Harbour if anyone else can help.

Re: Washington DC for less than $500
Bonniejoy, I think this was this river cruise and here's a link about Washington Harbour. The cruise is a great way to see the monuments at night with all the lights. You're relaxing after walking all day, eating dinner, listening to music, dancing and seeing the sights all at the same time.
I'm an art freak so I'd go to the National Gallery that reopened recently after renovations. Seeing The Smithsonian is an entertaining afternoon. You could possible do all of this on the first day if you leave home early. Only little Bonniejoy would have to stay in the hotel room, so that's not good. So you will have to be choosy about what you do. Now that I think about it you might want to mostly walk around and check out shops and galleries with the little one, Georgetown is perfect for that.

Re: Washington DC for less than $500
Hi Imbues. Great ideas. I had also found this info on Washington Harbour but was hoping someone knew the restaurants there. The concierge at the Fairmont has been very helpful and we will call them back closer to the date for specifics. I like the river cruise!
Can't leave little Bonnie Joy home alone....we might not be able to ever visit again! I think we will walk around and hope for great weather so we can eat outside hopefully around the Harbour or Georgetown so Bonnie can enjoy with us. Worse case is take out and eat in the room. As long as we are all together, we will enjoy!

Imbues--did you see the 2 night package? I stumbled on it while perusing the new offers. I would consider that for a nice little weekend rendezvous!

Re: Washington DC for less than $500
Oh yes, it's really a bargain if you get it close to the starting bid. I should have posted a link to that one too, but I was too busy salivating over this one. Two days for me would be too little time in DC, it's about 5- 6 hours away. What I love the most about visiting DC is the free museums.
