02-11-2013, 11:45 AMThere is something to be said for Florida. We love it there. We are in the Alps at the moment and we have had 2 weeks of sub-zero (Centigrad) weather and have only seen the sun once. We are wondering why we left sunny Florida - two weeks of gloom for one day of glorious, sunny, skiing.... and we have another 4 weeks here. Hope the weather improves..... Last year, the weather her was fantastic.

Well....as it happens, we were speaking with a gentleman a couple of weeks back, while dining in San Ignacio, Belize.....apparently his wife is very 'close' to her family and friends back in upstate New York and she didn't want to leave the area when they retired. He seems to be very comfortable living in a modest place outside San Ignacio and goes back north once or twice a year....guess his wife comes down to Belize once or twice a year.
Guess they get along with that arrangement....and apparently have fewer disagreements these days.

If we could afford the upkeep on 2 houses, we would have had something in Latin America a long time ago!
I think he is looking in upstate PA because housing is so inexpensive (prices have really dropped in many areas due to the gas drilling and many forclosures) pay cash, no mortgage and eventually retire but of course, my answer is what do we do with the place for the years before we retire - would be hard to rent it out since the areas he is looking in are not exactly in PAs ski resort areas ;-0Roam if you want to, roam around the world...........

Yes we could lease the land if we found natural gas, however, don't think we could live there afterwards unless we like our water really hot and flaming!
More snow tonight in Philly - yuck! I hope they stick to their 2-3 inches predictionRoam if you want to, roam around the world...........

Minor snow here but it is icy! Pup and I almost slipped and fell! The perils of wintertime in Central PA! Looking forward to Ecuador in a few weeks.

We got lucky and the storm passed Philly by - Chester county got a good bit and parts of Delaware county.
BJ - enjoy Ecuador and the Galapagos - can not wait to hear all about it. We really want to go back to Ecuador since we have not been there since 2001 and missed some of the spots we were supposed to visit on our unexpectedly shortened trip ;-(Roam if you want to, roam around the world...........
