weather prohibitive

I plan on flying between NYC & Savannah, GAin the first week of May 2007. I have heard this is the Very Worst time of year to travel this corridor because of thunderstorms...is this true? I think my 'informant' just had one bad experience. Pls respond if you are aware of negative weather conditions at this time of year in this location. As I could change my plans if necessary. Any pilots here? What's the scoop?

Wow. We live on the East Coast and really never heard this. Yes, there are thunderstorms but more in July and August. We always fly in May and never had thunderstorm problems. We fly from Philadelphia or Baltimore down the coast to the Caribbean. Sometimes you might have rain but rarely servere thunderstorms.

Also, it seems rather alarmist to change the travel plans of a 2-3 hour flight just because it is in the month of May. Perhaps there will be a thunderstorm at some point during the month, but even so you'll just deal with a delay or reroute, which you may have to deal with for some other reason anyway. I would say proceed as normal and if there is a delay or cancellation deal with it then.

I had heard this info from some negative people, but worse...my husband believed this info.I had a feeling this claim was alot of nonsense, but thought I'd double check with the experts!I feel much better now.
