12-12-2008, 07:21 AMWhat About Journey's End in Belize?
Hey, I pulled the trigger and bought a seven night package at Journey's End.....anyone here in the community stayed there? I see a lot of mixed review on tripadvisor!

hi, Mountie! I did the exact same thing(except make the buy)! Such a mixed bag of reviews. I'll be very curious to get your opinion--when are you going--soon??
I'm guessing it's on the very rustic side of luxury, like Ariau Towers.

Hi Mountie,
I saw that you were bidding on this the other day and am delighted to see that you picked this up. I have been looking at doing a Belize trip, so I am very excited to hear your review of this! Good luck and bring lots of suntan lotion (and I'm guessing, bug spray!)

mountie.....good catch...I was bidding in the sameMystery Auction a few days earlier, but I dropped out when I saw you place the $957 bid....I figured you really wanted it.....then it finally peaked at $1,230!
Glad you snapped it up in the next offering for the minimum bid!
We've never stayed at Journey's End....but we did wander by it once or twice during our last trip to Ambergris Caye. It appears to be basic and rustic (and so are a lot of other beach properties)and probably a pretty good choice to kick back....I also noticed the "pro" and "con" postings on tripadvisor, but we always take the "negatives" we read there with a grain of salt.
Last time we were at Ambergris, we stayedthe VictoriaHouse http://victoria-house.com/home.cfm?cat=homewhich is about five or sixtimes the price of what you paid for Journey's End....it's pretty isolated and located a couple of miles south of San Pedro. The Victoria House is a very nice property, with a lovely staff, way over priced (in our opinion), and some what out of character with the island.
The best part about Ambergris is the great diving......and hanging out in San Pedro at night....lots of funky little restaurants and bars and a great deal more fun that staying for dinnerin the resorts.
I think you will have a great time during your visit...just try to go during the Winter or early Spring.....the Summers are typically very rainy and those little bugs just love to nibble!- Ω -

Re: What About Journey's End in Belize?
We stayed at Journey's End twice years ago. We enjoyed it very much then. Great location, snorkelling trips, etc. From what we have heard, it is still the same.....with that said, many of the properties on Ambergris caye are new, updated, and more amenities. Journeys End is one of the original properties. When we were there, there were only a handful of properties (Ramons, a religious property, etc, ) So, back in the day, it was the place to stay....not sure now.

mountie, I peeked at the Past Auction Results and see that you made your purchase of the Journey's End package at the minimum bid price.
How about the individual who paid almost twice as much for the same offer when it was one of the Mystery Auctions just a few days earlier!
Did you utilize a VIP Certificate as well? If so, that would mean your stay will cost just a tad over $100 a night for two people.
I would disregard the negative postings in tripadvisor and plan for a wonderful week on the beach, great diving and several fresh sea food dinners.
Let us know all of the details when you return.

Re: What About Journey's End in Belize?
Well, well, well, it's about time you spent some of your money and used another certificate. Journey's End sounds like a pretty laid back place to waste away a week or so on the beach.
As far as those negative comments on tripadvisor, why not use the direct telephone number offered on the LL site and give the manager a call. Ask him or her why those negative comments were made and if they are true or not.
Make a little noise, mountie, let them know you are coming and you expect a luxury experience, just like is outlined in the auction package. I bet you have a great trip and you sure can't complain about the price you paid.t-2-f
