02-02-2013, 03:40 PMWe love the Sunny Isles beaches, and yes, you are correct, Siesta Key with its pure white sand made US Beach No. 1 in 2012 by Dr. Beach. Also love Sanibel beaches.

02-03-2013, 10:12 AMWe have friends that go there and after joining them one year we found this stretch of beach quite appealing. It's not far from Miami South Beach with its wonderful shops and restaurants and it does not have the crowds of Ft. Lauderdale. We like it as an Atlantic beach with the higher waves.

Living in Sarasota, of course I would have to say "Siesta Key Beach" is my favorite beach. Before moving to Florida, we used to vacation on the Sanibel/Captiva Islands where the beaches are also wonderful. We also spend a few days at Vero Beach and Coco Beach, both of these beaches are great.

The only thing I dislike about our Gulf beaches is the occasional outbreak:

02-08-2013, 12:50 PMI agree, if you go to weather.com they are showing an advisory for Sarasota, Charlotte and Lee Counties. But Sanibel/Captiva is beautiful. I sure don't remember having this much Red tide when I was younger. Many people here believe it is tied into the Lake Okeechobee water releases.

Two or three years ago, we had a terrible outbreak of red tide in Siesta Key, We had dead fish by the thousands lining the beach and the red seaweed piled up 4 foot high. The smell was horrific and few people could stand the biting odor that affected everyone's bronchials. This last year I don't recall any outbreaks. All the better!

02-18-2013, 06:23 AMWell, this morning I'm quite fond of Key Largo.
I'm sitting here on my patio looking eastward toward the Atlantic. Yes, it's a bit cool, but not at all like back home.
Should be warmer this afternoon and by Happy Hour, everyone will be in shorts at my favorite beach bar.
